The Camus Ile de Ré Fine Island Cognac is one of a range of Cognacs produced by the house from the vineyards located on the Ile de Ré Island in the most westerly part of the Cognac region known as Bois Ordinaires. Battered by strong Atlantic winds, the grapes grown here produce inimitable eaux-de-vie with an island character balanced by fruity notes and outstanding smoothness. This expression is the youngest Cognac in the range, aged in an extremely damp cellar in lightly toasted oak barrels. Served neat, it will surprise you with its light, fresh tanginess; unsurprisingly, it has won a wide range of awards, including a gold medal at the Cognac Masters and an ‘oustanding’ medal from the IWSC.
Camus is a long-running Cognac house, famous for producing a wide range of eaux-de-vie. Since Jean-Baptise Camus founded his company in 1863, four generations have followed in his footsteps to turn this small winegrower into a world-renowned Cognac house of distinction. Their family-owned vineyards are part of a magnificent estate of 280 hectares (691 acres), and under Cyril Camus - fifth-generation director of Camus Cognac - the family remains passionate about responsible cultivation, allowing their fields to accumulate organic matter while preserving wildlife in the surrounding environment.
Camus Ile de Ré Fine Island Cognac is presented in a wide, bold bottle, featuring an image of the Ile de Ré lighthouse. A cream-colored box, perfectly matching the foil seal, completes this elegantly-designed package.
Best enjoyed neat as a digestif, the subtle smoky character and the maritime influence here will provide the lucky drinker with a truly memorable and unique tasting experience. A dash of still spring water will reveal its powerful character to the full. This Cognac would be an excellent match for grilled seafood dishes, or simply dashed over fresh oysters.
I appreciate Camus for years and have tasted many of their blends and also the stars but this one I tried this for the first time. Not exactly a spectacular VSOP but very pleasant, light, and aromatic with hints of salt, almonds, and vanilla. Above average finish where elements of a good single malt...
I can't consider if it's good or bad. Since my first impression was like smelling wet socks (which haven't been washed yet) ? Its taste was like sea salt, apple, lemon, with very light and lack of structure. Not smooth, and the aftertaste was a bit short. Feels like drinking Chablis Village...
Apples and pears with a slight sour lemon note on the nose. More white fruits on the palate with a lightly salted lemon sherbet attack. The finish seems short at first, but then it comes back with a warm peppery heat. Not smooth and lacking in sophistication, but it’s a nice enough drink.
I don't know if it's just imagination or if I actually smell the sand and the salt air. I would be very brave to say that it is a typical Bois Ordinaire but this Cognac is sublime, light and very pleasant to drink. I drink it straight, with ice cubes and I already used it for a Japanese Cocktail! Original...
The color of honey On the nose: A hint of ethanol heat. It’s followed by a medium aroma that reminds me of the Mint Julep cocktail. But mixed with honey, peaches and dried apricots. Light aromas of leather, tannins, rancio and cinnamon sticks follow. I let this breathe for about 10 more minutes....
So i am more a whisky man - i read an article about which cognacs to try if you love whisky. So this Camus bottle was among that selection and i ordered a bottle. really solid value for money, fruity (compared to a whisky) bit still dry enough for me. love that camus line for sure!
