A sumptuous Cognac, revealing an array of complex aromatic fragrances and distinct flavors, all unique to the single year of 1996. This vintage jewel is a true emblem of the Borderies cru and one that is characteristic of the soft soils, its sought after Ugni-blanc grapes, were grown with.
With hundreds of years worth of expertise under their belt, it’s safe to say, the close-knit family running Maison Giboin know a thing or two about Cognac. Based in both the Borderies and Fins bois crus, Giboin are artisanal masters in the creation of quality products characteristic of the region and subsoil. Offering a variety of unique Cognacs and Pineau de Charentes, the house of Giboin is a notable brand that deserves a firm place in any Cognac collection.
Vintage Borderies 1996 is available as a 70cl bottle or in the slightly smaller 50cl version. While the smaller version is an ideal gift or small gesture, the 70cl bottle arrives with a burgundy Bordeaux presentation box to match. Inside the bottle, the Cognac’s copper color with golden hues shines through as it catches the light. A remarkable vintage essential for a Cognac connoisseurs collection.
Vintage Cognacs like Giboin Borderies Vintage 1996 deserve to be enjoyed on their own, at room temperature. Giboin is an expert producer of both Cognac and Pineau de Charentes, with 60 acres (24 hectars) of vineyards in both the Borderies and Fins Bois Cognac growing areas of the Charente. This family run, traditional brand has a history stretching back to the early part of the nineteenth century, and exclusively produces a very limited amount of Cognac per year. Using predominantly Ugni Blanc grapes, but Merlot too, Giboin strives to remain committed to the methods used by the family’s founders, and for a small house curates a surprisingly versatile and wide range of Cognac and Pineau products.
