Bisquit and Dubouche Cognac
Founded by Alexandre Bisquit in 1819, the house of Bisquit & Dubouché, with its home at the Château de Lignères by the banks of the Charente River, had a long-standing family tradition until the house was sold to Pernod Ricard in 1966. Said to have been among the favorite Cognacs of Winston Churchill and King George IV, it is popular in the Anglo-Saxon countries and hence was bought by the South African group Distell in 2009.

Interesting facts about the Bisquit & Dubouché Cognac history
1. Alexandre Bisquit created The House of Bisquit & Dubouché Cognacs at the tender age of 20, in 1819 - drawing on generations of family craft and experience.
2. Alexandre Bisquit took command of a Republican battalion and defended the July Monarchy and the French Republican citizens. As a result, he was invited to dine with the French king himself - Louis Phillippe.
3. Already by 1862 the Cognac house was granted an Honorary Award at the London’s World Fair.
4. They participated in the world famous 1889 Paris World’s Fair at the Eiffel Tower.
5. In 1890, Edouard Laporte-Bisquit promoted his Cognacs in India, Argentina and the Middle East.
6. The griffins were established as the brand icon in 1923, acting as guardians of the cellars.
7. In 1951, the House of Bisquit & Dubouché Cognac was named ‘Official Supplier of Cognac’ to King George VI of England.
8. French singer and entertainer Joséphine Baker partnered with them in 1952 to create a unique Cognac blend.
9. In 1984, Bisquit & Dubouché became the on-board Cognac for Air France.
10. In 1998, it was discovered that there were bottles of their Cognac in the old wreck of a ship sunk by the German army in 1916.
The Bisquit & Dubouché Story
The heritage of Bisquit & Dubouché dates back to 1819, when Alexandre Bisquit founded the cognac house in the town of Jarnac, in the heart of the Cognac region. His family had been active in distillation for generations, selling bottles since as far back as 1750, but had never taken the step of becoming independent with their own brand. With its 205 hectares of vineyards, it used to be one of the biggest vineyards in the Charente area, together with 64 alambics (pot stills) and cellars.
Bisquit & Dubouché Today
In 2009, Bisquit & Dubouché was bought by the South African group Distell from the former owner Pernod Ricard. In fact, when contacting Bisquit & Dubouché, we got through to the company headquarters in South Africa. Distell acquired a Chateau in the town center of Cognac to nest the brand and a complete site and cellars to shelter the cognacs. In 2010, the Cognac house launched its products in South Africa.
Bisquit & Dubouché Cognac Awards
The Bisquit & Dubouché Prestige Cognac was awarded a gold medal at the London IWSC. The Bisquit & Dubouché VS, Cognac Bisquit & Dubouché VSOP and XO were also awarded - the brand is the first to be awarded for each category of their Cognacs.
