Malternative Belgium's No. 48 "Le Prullepie" Lot 79 immediately impresses with its combination of maturity, elegance, and intensity. Distilled in 1979 and bottled at natural cask strength, it offers remarkable depth while remaining beautifully balanced.
On the nose, expressive aromas of guava, apricot, plum, and dates are layered with dark honey, salted caramel, and subtle grapefruit freshness. The fruit profile feels perfectly matured without becoming overly oaky.
The palate is rich, silky, and wonderfully oily. Stewed apples, ripe pears, apricots, marzipan, and walnuts intermingle with gentle spice and refined oak. Despite the 54.1% ABV, the alcohol is exceptionally well integrated, delivering power without sacrificing elegance.
The finish is long, complex, and deeply satisfying. Notes of old oak, toffee, dates, roasted almonds, and a delicate smoky touch linger beautifully, while a hint of citrus keeps everything fresh and vibrant until the very end.
