Wood shavings and oranges
Exceptional 90 /100
One of those noses that I could spend hours on without ever putting glass to lips. Full of charm and subtlety. It makes me imagine standing in a carpenter’s workshop with the scent of an orange grove coming through the doors on a hot day. But there must be coffee brewing and some kind of vanilla cakes and someone smoking at the bench. Just wonderful.
And no disappointment when it arrives in your mouth. The intensity is high and it’s dominated by woody character, but in the most charming way. There’s oak and cedar and tobacco all washed down with prune juice.
The finish is long and gently effervescent. Dark fruit juices fizz along until we get to the spicy sizzle at the end. Great!
This is an excellent drinking experience.

Doing this is necessary as the taste buds pick up contrasting flavours in the different areas of the mouth; on the tip of your tongue to the sides, for example. Take a tiny sip to prep your palate for the sensory experience to come. Take a second larger sip, and gently roll the cognac around, etting it come into contact with every corner of your mouth. Focus on the perceived textural sensations. Are the sensations round and rich or fresh and elegant? Is the overall mouthfeel intense, balanced, disjointed, or lacking presence? In short, how does the cognac feel in your mouth?
