Nice Armagnac, unusual closure

I picked up the ‘92 Armagnac for my 30th birthday and I love it. I was surprised to see that it not only came with a wax seal but a cork closure. Most spirts come in a bottle with a screw cap with a cork attached it. I’ve just been using a champagne stopper to seal the bottle from air. If there is a proper way to do so, I want to know.
About the Armagnac, the first thing I noticed was the alcohol. I understand that Armagnac has hired alcohol levels that wine which I normal drink, this was super noticeable. I didn’t really get much aroma or flavor from it but I will need to try it again.
