Aged between 7 & 15 years, the Drouet Réserve de Jean is a single vineyard expression from Grande Champagne. In the classic style of Drouet, it has been distilled twice on the lees for an exceptionally complex flavor and aged in new barrels for 12 months before it was transferred to older roux barrels for extended aging. This special release has been selected to honor the founder of the house, Jean L'Homme, who created the estate back in 1848.
The Drouet family estate is located just five miles from the town of Cognac, in the village of Salles d’Angles. While the estate crosses over into the Petite Champagne region, Drouet only uses grapes from the limestone-rich Grande Champagne terroir for their own Cognac. Like many producers, they favor the Ugni Blanc grape, but mix it with 7% Colombard for added complexity. The wines used for distilling is slightly acidic with a low alcoholic strength of 8-9%, which gives a lower yield but a much more flavorful result.
Fourth-generation distiller Patrick Drouet continue the traditions of his parents, grandparents and great-grandfather, using their knowledge combined with modern technology to maintain a Cognac character that honor their terroir, expertise and traditions.
The Drouet Réserve de Jean is presented in an elegant, tall bottle with an exaggerated punt and a slim neck wrapped in silver foil. It’s comes with a suitably modern box showing an image of the maison wrapped across the front and side.
Well-aged and with a superbly complex palate, Drouet recommend that this Cognac is one to save for “the very end of the evening.”
We suggest you enjoy it neat, in a slim tulip glass, alongside fine cheeses or even some dark chocolate.
Boasting a history spanning four generations, the estate of Cognac Drouet covers 106 acres of Grande and Petite Champagne. However, the cognacs produced are purely from the Grande Champagne. Creating a range of cognacs from Trois Etoiles (three stars) to XO and beyond, Cognac Drouet remains faithful to the traditional production methods of old. Today, Drouet cognacs can be found throughout the world, with their distinguished packaging and the unique bottle shapes of their top of the range cognacs making them easy to recognize.
