Nose: An initially spicy bouquet, this mature Cognac soon opens up with softer notes of dark chocolate, ripe pears and coconut.

Palate: Delicate and well balanced, with cocoa nibs and toasted oak followed by more spices (clove, nutmeg) and an extraordinary finish that lasts an age.

Description

Chainier Très Vieille Reserve: a Glass of Luxury

This very old Cognac has spent more than 30 years aging in old oak casks deep within the cellars at the House of Chainier. Produced with exceptional quality eaux-de-vie from the Petite Champagne region, Chainier Très Vieille Réserve has not just the craftsmanship of Chainier to thank for its premium quality, but also the natural land content of its cru, as the chalky clay-limestone soil works wonders for the eaux-de-vie. Once the distillation process is complete, the eaux-de-vie is matured in Limousin oak casks under strictly controlled climate conditions.

Chainier is a small artisanal Cognac house producing high-quality Cognacs from their estate in the heart of the Petite Champagne region. Passed down through generations, the house of Chainier use grapes sourced from their two vineyards spanning across both the Grande Champagne and the Petite Champagne regions, which means their eaux-de-vie benefit from both soils of exceptional quality and proximity to the ocean. It is then down to the expertise and savoir-faire of the distiller and master blender to work their magic in developing the delicious Cognac. Chainier Très Vieille Réserve is the perfect example of the skill of these craftsmen, as its spicy flavors are complemented delectably by notes of coconut and cocoa. This well balanced, fine, soft-tasting expression would make a great introduction to the world of well-aged Cognacs.

Presentation of the Bottle

The Chainier Très Vieille Réserve comes in a classic straight bottle, beautifully displaying the Cognac's golden coppery tones. It would make the perfect gift for anyone with expensive taste who enjoys the finer things in life.

How to Enjoy Chainier Très Vieille Réserve Cognac

An extra old blend of eaux-de-vie like the Chainier Très Vieille Réserve should be enjoyed in the right atmosphere: neat, at room temperature. Gently pour the Cognac into a snifter glass and let the aromas open up before tasting. To alter the experience slightly, try drinking it with a splash of mineral water and enjoy how this unique patchwork of flavors and aromas evolve and develop. As this Cognac contains notes of both cocoa and coconut, it would also be a great accompaniment to rich chocolate desserts. As a digestif, the complex aromas of this Très Vieille pair perfectly with a fine cigar following an indulgent meal.
