Eye: Dark red mahogany.

Nose: A rich and powerful bouquet that presents the typical Grande Champagne scents of dried fruits, such as orange peel and apricot and a subtle rancio aroma. It is evident, even from the nose that this is an organic Cognac, free from added sugars and additives.

Palate: The initial attack reflects the power in the nose, and then settles nicely on the palate. The aromas of orange peel and apricot follow through to the mouth before evolving with notes of charred wood and the sweet spice of anise. The finish is distinctly dry and persistent.

Description

Pure & Rustic Grande Champagne Très Vieille Réserve

This edition from the Bache Gabrielsen Pure & Rustic collection is around 40 years old, making it something of a rarity as a Très Vieille Réserve. Cellar Master, Jean-Philippe Bergier produced this Cognac in close collaboration with “Bouilleur de Cru” families from across the Grande Champagne region. He meticulously selected and blended different Cognacs from experienced distillers, ensuring only eaux-de-vie from Ugni Blanc grapes grown in the premier terroir of Grange Champagne were included. This impeccable Cognac was then allowed to mature for over a generation in Limousin oak casks and only seven barrels are available, around 5000 bottles.

Bache Gabrielsen was founded by a Norwegian man, Thomas Bache-Gabrielsen in 1905 and is now managed by his great-grandson, Herve Bache-Gabrielsen, several generations on. The Pure & Rustic range invites the consumer to experience a light and fresh style of Cognac, a nod towards the rustic style of life in the region.

Presentation of the bottle:

The bold and contemporary shape of the bottle reflects the Cognac’s modern positioning. The label features information regarding the Cognac House’s background below the logo and product name, all of which is in a trendy and minimalist font.

In the Pure & Rustic series, both blue and white labels are used. If you have a bottle with a white label, which is the case here, Bache Gabrielsen guarantees that only a limited edition has been bottled and that all bottles are numbered.

How to enjoy:

A cognac of such a mature and rare age should be savoured and experienced neat.

About Bache Gabrielsen Cognac

Bache-Gabrielsen is a medium-sized family Cognac house with an international history. The company was created in 1905, and so it celebrated its 100th anniversary in the last few years. With its clean design, Cognac Bache-Gabrielsen takes an important position in the Cognac market, exporting mainly to Scandinavian countries. Hervé Bache-Gabrielsen, the fourth generation at the head of the company, is certainly aware that the Cognac industry is undergoing changes, with the international market being heavily developed and marketing strategies refined to cater for a younger, more fashionable consumer base. Given the size of the company compared to the major cognac houses, it is surprising to discover that this Norwegian cognac brand is the market leader in the sale of Cognac in Norway!
