Description

De Haartman Cognac: Over 100 Years under the sea!

Cognac De Haartman was a project intended to be for The Tsar Nicholas II of Russia and the Russian aristocracy. Unfortunately, it never reached its goal as the ship was sunk by a German U-boat in 1917 in the Baltic sea and was recovered 102 years later.

Only 300 bottles out of the 600 shipped were saved from the wreck and were rebottled with fine Cognac from approximately the same period of time at the beginning of 1900.

In order to refill the original bottles of De Haartman Cognac, Kim and Godfred Birkedal Hartmann were eventually able to find an exquisite fine Cognac almost identical to the original noble drops from the beginning of the 1900s.

As we all know, Cognac does not age in the glass; therefore, the original De Haartman Cognac, after spending 102 years, 80 meters in the Baltic Sea, would not have been able to age. However, De Haartman Cognac has been aged in oak casks for many years until it was transferred into Dame Jeanne in 25-litre glass bottles.

Presentation of the bottle

The packaging is identical to the original De Haartman Cognac shipped from France in 1916 - classic and elegant. Housed in a lavish presentation box, this Cognac is a one-of-a-kind collector's item and artefact of history worth treasuring.

How to enjoy

The aromatic intensity of this Cognac is best appreciated at the end of a meal. Be sure to take your time in order to soak the experience and get the most out of the tasting. We recommend drinking a Cognac of such fine quality, neat, or on the rocks. Sip and savour its rich flavors as they elegantly evolve across the palate.

About Birkedal Hartmann Cognac

Birkedal Hartmann is a rare example of a successful cognac house that today collaborates with producers and master blenders rather than producing its own eaux-de-vie. This allows Birkedal Hartmann to focus on modern marketing and distribution strategies, as the production is entirely outsourced. This does not however imply that the tradition of the house, founded in the late 1800s, has been neglected. On the contrary: With its extremely smart marrying of traditional and contemporary culture, the cognac house Birkedal Hartmann managed to be amongst the first to launch a product with US celebrity rapper Ludacris. The cognac called CONJURE has shown to be a huge success in the US market, positioning Birkedal Hartmann as one of the most innovative cognac companies today.
