Description

Otard Cognac Fortis and Fidelis: Their Rarest Cognac to date

They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks, but the well-established and traditional Cognac producer Baron Otard have managed to create a new and exciting blend with their Fortis et Fidelis Cognac, all while staying true to their heritage and integrating their history into its production.

The Cognac contains eaux-de-vie from some of the oldest stocks held on the Baron Otard estate. This is the rarest ever Cognac Baron Otard has produced, and is therefore highly sought after by fans of the Maison and Cognac connoisseurs the world over.

The name Fortis and Fidelis, meaning "Strength and Loyalty", features on the Otard coat of arms, a fitting description of both the values upheld by the brand and equally the ancient origins of this fine blend.

It is a respectful and luxurious homage to founder Baron Jean-Baptiste Otard, a distinct blend of some of the rarest eaux-de-vie housed in the most exquisite crystal carafe.

The estate, named the Royal Chateau of Cognac, was bought by Otard in 1795 particularly for its unique ageing conditions in its ancient cellars. The thickness of the walls and the nearby Charente river guarantee a consistent temperature and the perfect level of humidity.

From here, Baron Otard have harnessed their history and heritage to constantly reinvent themselves, creating popular blends while remaining true to their rich history and noble roots.

Like with every Cognac that Baron Otard produce, each individual eaux-de-vie has been carefully selected by the cellar master to enhance a different aspect of the Ford et Fidelis "prestige"-aged Cognac. The nose presents an exciting array of aromas with plum dominating and delicate hints of walnut.

Smooth and warming spices, in particular nutmeg, intensify on the second nose when combined with the nutty and stone fruit aromas, a final sweet hint of candied oranges blends seamlessly with notes of leather on the finish.

A wealth of other flavors are equally present on the palate, including prunes, crystallized fruit and a pinch of spice, the subtle "rancio" character permeates throughout, sensually caressing the palate.

How to Enjoy:

This harmonious homage to Baron Otard should be enjoyed neat, perhaps hand warmed, in a traditional snifter or crystal glassware (to match the carafe!). Enjoy with friends or fellow connoisseurs and savor every sip of this sensationally rare Cognac.

Presentation of the Bottle:

This exquisite crystal carafe has been handcrafted in France by one of the world's leading crystal glass makers, Saint-Louis. The signature fluid lines were designed by French designer Christophe Pillet, creating a distinctive and powerful shape.

Each individual decanter takes three weeks to produce and requires the skills of 15 of the best crystal makers in the country. Each carafe comes with a wooden case with a platinum lacquered finish, it equally features a booklet telling the story behind Fortis et Fidelis along with a certificate of authenticity.

This decanter is a thing of beauty, just like the eaux-de-vie inside, its unique shape and sharp, clean design make it an immediate talking point for anyone displaying it. The coat of arms is proudly engraved onto the carafe's front, a truly noble piece that reaffirms Baron Otard's position as one of the best producers in Cognac.

About Otard Cognac

With an ancient tradition tracing back to the Middle Ages, and to the great Norwegian Viking Ottar, this Cognac dynasty has an incredibly unique history. Around the same period, the iconic Chateau de Cognac was built on the banks of the Charente, and was largely associated with the French monarchy. Eventually, the two histories would merge with the arrival of the Cognac Maison Otard, founded in 1795. Today, the Chateau is the home of Baron Otard Cognac, who are amongst the most recognized in quality. The elegant teardrop bottles are a beautiful symbol for the simultaneously traditional and modern values of Cognac Otard.
