A Remarkably Fruity Pineau Des Charentes Rouge
Pineau Des Charentes is a fortified wine specific to the Charentes region and the Raymond Bossis Pineau Rouge is a fine offering from a family of winegrowers.
It has been made from a blend of 2015 and 2016 harvests comprising 70% Merlot grapes, and Cabernet Sauvignon for the remainder. Once the grapes are harvested, Cognac eau-de-vie is added to the slightly fermented must and the blend is left to mature.
This Pineau has been aged with at least eight months spent in French oak casks, leaving it bursting with fruitiness. The mouthfeel is rich and long and it finds the perfect balance between acidity, alcohol, and sugar.
Operating from the Domaine des Groies in the Cognac region, year upon year Raymond Bossis carefully takes into account the climatic variables which might affect vine growth.
They have a profound respect for the environment, and practice responsible farming methods to minimize the impact of pesticides on grapes, and therefore on wines.
They are also members of the Federation of Independent Winegrowers, which guarantees the involvement of the winegrower at all stages of production, winemaking, cellar work, and marketing.
A sleek 70cl decanter, bottled at 17.53%.
Serve as the Charente residents would themselves: as a chilled apéritif or with dessert. Drink it chilled or over ice. It should be shared with friends and family.
