Description

A Well Crafted Pineau Des Charentes Rose

Pineau Des Charentes is a fortified wine specific to the Charente region and the Raymond Bossis Pineau Rose is a fine example of this family of winegrowers craft.

It has been made exclusively from the 2017 Merlot harvests and has undergone a more intricate creation process than that of other Pineau. Once the grapes are harvested they are macerated for just 3 hours, instead of the 48 hours used to create the Pineau Rouge. This accounts for the difference in taste and in color between the two. The juice is then fermented for 48 hours which simultaneously reduces the sugar content whilst producing 1.5% of alcohol. This means that less Cognac eau-de-vie is required to make up the 17% alcohol content.

It is aged for around 18 months in French oak casks, making it a light, fruity and floral number. It is fruitier than the Pineau Blanc and less sweet than the Pineau Rouge and would make an excellent accompaniment to a fruit tart dessert.

Operating from the Domaine des Groies in the Cognac region, year upon year Raymond Bossis carefully takes into account the climatic variables which might affect vine growth. They have a profound respect for the environment, and practice responsible farming methods to minimize the impact of pesticides on grapes, and therefore on wines.

They are also members of the Federation of Independent Winegrowers, which guarantees the involvement of the winegrower at all stages of production, winemaking, cellar work, and marketing.
