Description
Chainier Pineau des Charentes Vieux
The gold medal-winning Chainier Pineau des Charentes Vieux is is a blend of the best Petite Champagne harvests, sourced from selected old vines. During the harvests, these grapes are pressed in a pneumatic wine press under low pressure to prevent oxidisation. Only the most successful vintages are selected for this aged Pineau, which is then matured in oak casks in order to extract tannins - the same way that Cognac is produced. After it has reached the desired aromas and flavors, the Pineau is then filtered and clarified before being bottled.
The Chainier family, originally from the Petite Champagne region, have been making Pineau de Charentes for generations. It was in 1970 that Guy Chainier and his son Dominique began to work together on a range of Cognacs, and in the 1980s Dominique Chainier took over the family property in Arthenac to develop the retail side of the business. Branching out from the smaller of the two Champagne regions, the family purchased an 18-hectare vineyard in Grande Champagne, expanding their product potential significantly.
Fiercely independent, the family continue marketing their own products today, with Dominique Chainier and his grandson Clément reaching people around the world through their website as well as numerous trade fairs.
