Description
Chainier Pineau des Charentes Blanc
The award-winning Chainier Pineau des Charentes Blanc is made of Ugni Blanc (70%) and Colombard grapes (30%) from Petite Champagne, sourced from selected old vines with a south/south-west exposure. During the harvests, these grapes are pressed in a pneumatic wine press under low pressure to prevent oxidisation. Twelve hours after being decanted, some young Cognac is added to the juice in order to prevent instant fermentation; it’s not until the following winter that the Pineau will be matured with the lees. After 3 to 4 years it will be blended with different vintages to obtain a consistent flavor and quality before finally being filtered and bottled.
The Chainier family, originally from the Petite Champagne region, have been making Cognac and Pineau de Charentes for generations. It was in 1970 that Guy Chainier and his son Dominique began to work together on a range of Cognacs, and in the 1980s Dominique Chainier took over the family property in Arthenac to develop the retail side of the business. Branching out from the smaller of the two Champagne regions, the family purchased an 18-hectare vineyard in Grande Champagne, expanding their product potential significantly.
Fiercely independent, the family continue marketing their own products today, with Dominique Chainier and his grandson Clément reaching people around the world through their website as well as numerous trade fairs.
