Larsen Winter Blend Cognac: for Classic and Modern Cocktails
Crafted especially to be used for cocktails and mixed drinks, the Larsen Winter Blend Cognac is a modern expression for those who like to experiment. The House of Larsen took inspiration for the blend from Niels Larsen’s 1899 book American Drinks, which lists 156 cocktail recipes. With its delicate flavours of ripe fruit (baked apple, plum and marmalade) and warm notes of oak and vanilla, this is a wonderfully versatile Cognac to make drinks with any time. Please note that this release is an aged Cognac, not an eau-de-vie like the Summer version.
Larsen’s Managing Director, Jérôme Durand, said of this release: “We know that a significant percentage of Cognac is drunk by consumers in cocktails and long drinks and we know that bartenders appreciate Cognac for its aromas, flavours and mouthfeel… The focus is not on age or age designation but aroma and flavour.”
The history of Larsen Cognac dates back to the early decades of the 20th Century, when a 24-year-old Norwegian skipper from Tromsø, Jens Reidar Larsen, left home in search of a new life in the Americas. Along the way, his boat made a stopover in Bordeaux for essential repairs, and the industrious Jens Reidar decided to make the most of the opportunity, seeking work in a nearby town. It was here that he found his new life - falling in love with a local girl as well as the local spirit - and he never got back on that boat. After spending several years learning the Cognac trade at the famous House of Prunier, Jens Reidar eventually founded Larsen Cognac in 1926.
Presentation of the Bottle
The Larsen Winter Blend comes in a straight-sided bottle with a deep punt, natural wood stopper and a modern label outlining the flavor notes and concept. With packaging as modern as the liquid inside, this is a stylish, Scandi-cool release that can take pride of place in any liquor cabinet.
How to Enjoy Larsen Winter Blend
Made for experimentation, we recommend trying this blend in any Cognac cocktail you like. The House of Larsen suggests using it in an East India Cocktail, a classic from the 19th Century:
- 30ml Larsen Winter Blend
- 5ml Triple sec
- 10ml Raspberry syrup (preferably home-made)
- 1 dash Maraschino Liqueur
- 1 dash Angostura Bitters
Stir all the ingredients with ice in a mixing glass and fine-strain into a chilled coupette glass. Garnish with a thin twist of lemon peel.
Over Larsen Cognac
Known as ‘The Cognac of Vikings,’ Larsen Cognac has striven to produce and offer products of high quality at selected points of sale throughout the world.
A family run concern, the story of Cognac Larsen dates back to 1926 when Jens Reidar Larsen made the move from his home country of Norway to France. Seduced by the quality of the brandy that came from the town of Cognac, he devoted much time and effort to become a connoisseur in the subject, and naturally progressed to owning and running his own Cognac house.
Today, Larsen Cognacs are as well known for their luxury packaging as the quality of their eaux-de-vie, with Limoges Porcelain and Baccarat Crystal featuring strongly with many of their premium Cognacs.
