Claude Thorin Héritage Grande Champagne Cognac
Groeigebied (Cru) & bodem: Grande Champagne
Heritage and Finesse by Claude Thorin
Claude Thorin Héritage Grande Champagne Cognac is a blend of André Thorin's oldest eaux-de-vie, distilled exclusively from Ugni Blanc grapes grown in the Grande Champagne cru and aged for 35 years. The fact that the casks for this bottling were laid down by the previous cellar master at the house of Claude Thorin is particularly poignant.
This outstanding expression is characterized by its finesse on the nose and exceptional length on the palate, typical of a premier cru Cognac of this age. The calcareous and mineral-rich soils of this area give particularly expressive wines, perfect for making eaux-de-vie that only improve with extended maturation.
Set among 106 hectares of vineyards, the Thorin estate has expanded considerably since it was taken over by second-generation distiller Claude from his father, André Thorin. Whether it’s wine, Pineau de Charente or Cognac, Claude focuses on producing everything on-site -- from field to bottle. Placed in the heart of the Grande Champagne growing region, Maison Thorin produces premier cru Cognac from Ugni Blanc as well as Folle Blanche grapes, which had almost disappeared from France after the phylloxera epidemic in the 1880s. This company may still be young, but by taking inspiration from centuries of knowledge, they carry on the traditions of Cognac production with as much passion as the oldest houses in Grande Champagne.

Experience in learning
I've always loved learning about the culture of Cognac wineries, and of course Claude Thorin is no exception. When I saw this bottle of Claude Thorin Héritage on the Cognac Expert website, I didn't hesitate to buy it and try it.
I tasted this wine with my family on a Chinese festival, the Chinese New Year.
Upon opening the bottle, the aromas of fruit pear, orange, dried fruit, tobacco, oak and spices continued to spill out.
A fun sip with different layers of candied fruit and cream, leather and barrel notes, with a long, mellow and lubricious finish, a nice touch.
Thanks to the cognac -expert for a happy evening!
