Description

Pierre Croizet Napoleon Cognac: Fins Bois Elegance

An accomplished Cognac, Pierre Croizet Napoleon Cognac has been aged in French oak casks for a minimum of six years. The House of Pierre Croizet is native to the Fins Bois region, and this is where they have sourced the eaux-de-vie used for this release. This growing area is covered by clay and chalk soils known as groies, similar to the Champagne regions but with a different composition. The heavy soil is around 60% clay, known for producing round, supple eaux-de-vie that age fairly quickly, with fruity aromas which vividly display the grape character.

The Croizet family have always passed down knowledge from father and mother to daughter and son, keeping their skills a closely guarded secret. With a fighting spirit to survive, they have overcome many challenges over the years - not least the Phylloxera epidemic of the 1870s, when Amelina Croizet was pivotal in ensuring that the family’s vineyards survived. Over the years, one thing that has remained constant has been to keep the traditional methods firmly in mind, whilst also advancing the Cognac making process.

Today, the family company is in the hands of Leopold Croizet, the latest in a long line of grape growers. Passionate about expanding further, he has acquired further vineyards stretching beyond the Fins Bois region into Petite Champagne - creating the potential for a whole new range of eaux-de-vie with a wider appeal. Regardless of where they harvest their grapes, however, Pierre Croizet Cognac only uses organic fertilizers on their land, keeping firmly to the traditional methods of their ancestors.

Presentation of the Bottle

Tall and elegant, like many of the bottles from this Cognac house, this release is presented in a classic style popular in the 19th Century. With its simple gold and silver label, the amber liquid contained within is simply allowed to speak for itself.

How to Enjoy

Certainly a great Cognac to add to your collection, the Pierre Croizet Napoleon Cognac makes a wonderful digestif to serve after a luxurious dinner. Best enjoyed neat at around 20°C (68°F) in a slim tulip glass.

About Pierre Croizet Cognac

Consisting of 30 hectares of vineyards around a typical Charentaise farm, the Maison Pierre Croizet extends over time. The Cognac house is in the heart of the village, Lantin, near Jarnac. It is a privileged terroir of the Fins Bois cru which benefits from the clay-limestone limits of the Champagne lands.

The entire production is dedicated to the manufacture of cognacs and pineau des Charentes. This family Cognac house of 9 generations has been conducting its vineyard in organic farming for over 20 years. Léopold has been at the head of the property since 2001, he decided to put forward the deep values that have been transmitted to him: "making a quality cognac starts with a reflection on the environment and on time". For him, the future lies in the preservation of his heritage and the deep conviction that the notion of "good farming sense" must regain its place in the work of the land.
