Eye: Deep amber with copper hues.

Nose: A complex bouquet of fruits, spices and wood notes. Scents of lemon and pear are layered with hints of vanilla and caramelised grapes which lead on to aromas of sweet myrrh, cedar and oak.

Palate: The strength and smoothness of this Cognac strikes a nice balance on the palate. The fruit notes of the nose are retained in the flavor, alongside hints of caramel, dark chocolate and wood. The finish has a good length that introduces dry nutty notes to the palate.

Description

Martell Noblige Limited Edition by Angel Chen

Martell Noblige Cognac received its name in reference to the age old French saying, ‘Noblesse Oblige’ which calls on the responsibilities that accompany wealth and power. This is a well suited reference to this indulgent yet dignified Cognac. For the 2020 festive season, Maison Martell is bringing back its Martell Exclusives initiative. It has invited the fashion designer Angel Chen to design a unique bottle for this emblematic Cognac as part of a limited-edition gifting collection.

A masculine and elegant Cognac, this Napoléon blend contains Cognacs aged 10 years or more from a range of terroirs. There is a dominance of eaux-de-vie from the Borderies region giving it a more floral aroma which escorts a smooth and sensual fruity palate, lightly balanced with complex wood and caramelised notes.

Presentation of the bottle:

Fashion designer Angel Chen has produced a bold and vibrant style bottle which blends traditional Chinese motifs with modern Western aesthetics, echoing her own cosmopolitan background.

The striking design, which dresses the Noblige bottle in Angel’s signature colours of red, yellow and blue, is a commemoration of Maison Martell’s first shipments to China in 1858 and the odyssey of the East meeting the West.

How to enjoy:

A versatile cognac that can be enjoyed in a multitude of ways. The complex palate makes it perfectly suitable to drink neat or over ice, but the more adventurous might turn to a rich, stirred-down cocktail.

Why not try the Ampersand, first published in The Old Waldorf-Astoria Hotel Bar Book (1935):

30ml Martell Noblige Cognac

30ml Old Tom Gin

30ml Sweet Vermouth

5ml Dry Curaçao

1 dash Orange Bitters

Stir with ice and strain into a chilled coupette, garnish with a twist of lemon peel.

Whichever way you choose to drink it, Martell Noblige will always 'oblige' - it's a Cognac as individual as you are as a person.

About Martell Cognac

Martell is the oldest of the Big Four Cognac houses. Similar to Rémy Martin, but a few years older still, not long ago did Martell celebrate its 300-year anniversary. The history of Martell & Co dates back to 1715 when Jean Martell founded the company with the wish to produce only the highest quality in Cognac. With the legendary bottles Martell Cordon Bleu, the cuvée Martell Extra L’Or de Jean Martell and the recent Création Grand Extra from 2007, the company strongly implanted itself in the luxury goods market, and are famous for using large amounts of eaux-de-vie from the Borderies terroir. It belongs to Pernod Ricard and has sales of around 15 million liters every year. The most precious eaux-de-vie, some of which date back to 1830, are stored in a secret location in the cellars of Jean Martell - approximately 1.6 million 9-liter cases!
