Description

Augier Cognac Le Singulier: Standing Out for its Single Growth, Grape and Distillation Method

Le Singulier is a stand out Cognac for many reasons, but we'll just try to single out a few. What sets it apart is not only its Fine Champagne origins, premier cru provenance meaning it contains rich and complex eaux-de-vie, but in fact its use of an unusual and rare grape variety, the Folle Blanche.

The choice to use this single grape in Le Singulier's blend means it is marked by a remarkable aromatic intensity that many connoisseurs won't have experienced before (as 98% of Cognacs are produced using the Ugni Blanc grape...) This rare, forgotten and fabulous grape variety was almost entirely wiped out by the phylloxera disaster of 1875, meaning this selection is unique and highly sought amongst Cognac connoisseurs.

Augier Le Singulier Cognac has been produced using a single distillation method, a natural wine fine lees process that produces a more refined, expressive flavor profile, meaning the extensive array of aromas are individually identifiable, one after the other. This traditional "on the lees" method has been used in Cognac for centuries, handed down through the generations since the estate was founded in 1643, making it one of the oldest existing houses in the region.

Le Singulier Awards

Le Singulier has won many awards, including Gold at the prestigious San Francisco Spirits Competition in 2018, most likely thanks to its unique choice of eaux-de-vie, its Fine Champagne florality and of course, its aromatic intensity and complexity.

The nose is initially subtle and precise, but upon swirling you'll discover notes of pear, wild peach and apricot. The body is round and textured on the palate with an intense burst of fruit flavors with a gentle undercurrent of woody notes. This complex character is typical of the Folle Blanche grape, meaning you'll be able to enjoy distinguishing the difference in flavors when sipped alongside an Ugni Blanc-based Cognac for example.

How to Enjoy:

The experts at Augier recommend pairing this particular Cognac with toasted artisan bread with smoked, salted butter and a carpaccio of raw boletus mushrooms, the toast should be drizzled in walnut oils with some cocoa nuts. The earthy aromas of chestnut, honey and hay produced by this unique dish pair perfectly with the woody tones of Le Singulier, and balance nicely with the intense fruity palate it presents.

Presentation of the Bottle:

An artisanal and exquisite bottle houses this unique and singular Cognac. This makes for a perfect display piece. The unique green stopper offers an "authentic feel" and the countryside sketchings reinforce the traditional history and heritage of the Maison. The autumnal green and red colors hint at the warming wood and fruit notes hidden within.

About Augier Cognac

Established in 1643 by a wine merchant, Cognac Augier is one of the oldest Cognac houses in existence. The brand has been responsible for reigniting interest in neglected terroirs and grapes, such as the rare Folle Blanche variety or lesser-known Bois Ordinaires cru. 370 years after being founded, the brand was given new life in 2013 under the stewardship of the legendary French group Pernod Ricard.

The expert craftsmanship that can only be developed after hundreds of years of experience is evident in every Cognac Augier produce, implementing traditional distillation, non-chill filtration and never using additives or artificial colors, thus preserving the eaux-de-vie's balance and aromatic complexity.

The brand's charming and chic designs for their bottles perfectly demonstrate the quality and care applied to every aspect of the Cognacs they produce. The modern rebrand of this established Maison has seen huge success and has been a huge hit amongst Cognac connoisseurs across the world.
