Napoleon: 20 Years average On Ice & Neat & Food Pairing

An unofficial age designation, "Napoleon" Cognac is comparable to XO quality, meaning the youngest eau-de-vie in the blend needs to have aged for at least 6 years in oak barrels. The origin of this name goes back to the French Emperor Napoleon and the Cognac House Courvoisier.

Legend has it that Napoleon took crates of Courvoisier Cognac into exile with him to the island of St Helena, and the crew coined the Cognac as "Napoleon's Cognac". The average age of a Napoleon Cognac is around 20 years.

Tasting review from Gautier:  Intense, developed aromas, reminiscent of fruits, walnuts and vanilla with great depth.  The very round, soft taste has a velvety depth of body and unsurpassed length.

Tasting reveiw by Martell: Nose: Seduces with fragrances of white flowers. A hint of honey, slight aromas of almond paste and of frangipane.  Palate: The attack is round and fluffy, one crunches quince or plum, before a final delight of pastry.  Delights with a long satisfying finish.

The cognac is complex, on the nose some nice vanilla, rose and jasmine flower, on the palate apricot, some almonds and nutmeg. The finish is quite long and last for about 8 minutes.
