Description
Navarre Makeda Coffee Premium Reggae Liquor
Inspired by the story of the Queen of Makeda who first went to visit the King of Isreal in the 9th century B.C and in doing so birthed a son named Menelik. The arrival of Menelik signified the first link of the dynasty to the Solomonides, kings and emperors from Ethiopia.
In a similar way, the meeting of Cognac and coffee gives birth to a delicious liqueur with both a strong and soft character. Hence the name of Navarre Makeda Coffee Premium Reggae Liquor. Produced from Cognac produced on the Navarre estate in the Grande Champagne region of Cognac, the eaux-de-vie in this liquor is classified as a “Fine Champagne” and contains grapes selected from both the Grande and Petite Champagne crus. Meanwhile, the mocha coffee is produced in Yemen and the highlands of Ethiopia as well as northern Kenya from a very old local variety of Arabica.
Since the last and 225th emperor of Ethiopia (the ras Tafari Makonnen who reigned under the name Halle Selassie from 1928 to 1974 is considered to be such an inspiration to the Rastas in Jamaica – one of whose forms of expression is reggae music – the house of Navarre have also chosen to incorporate said influence into the name of its Premium Coffee Liquor too.
Presentation of the bottle
Presented in a traditional style decanter, our eye first meets the vibrant colours of the Jamaican flag running down the centre of the bottle’s neck. The label features an illustration of ships travelling from a port, as traditionally the coffee was exported (in the 16th century) from the port of Moka and across the Red Sea in Yemen, the former Kingdom of Sheba. With the bottle’s inspiration drawn from history, its image is in keeping with the stories that influenced the product. Meanwhile, it tells a story in its own right, making this Cognac coffee liquor the perfect conversation starter and bottle to keep at the bar for social occasions.
How to enjoy
Serve Makeda neat at room temperature or on the rocks for an alternative tasting experience that differs from the usual Cognacs in a collection. Its coffee aromas pair deliciously with the sweetness of fresh pastries and rich chocolate desserts.
