Description
Merlet Liqueur C2 Cassis au Cognac
The Merlet Liqueur C2 Cassis au Cognac is a wonderfully modern take on an old tradition - a drink known as Mêlécasse, a mixture of eau-de-vie and crème de cassis. This Cognac and blackcurrant liqueur combines the natural infusion of the fruit with the delights of Cognac. Both the crème de cassis and the Cognac are made in-house at the House of Merlet, with the blackcurrant infusion blended with a minimum of 60% Cognac before sugar is added to finish. The end product is one that is wonderfully complex, with each component complementing the other, bringing a delightful medley of new flavors to the fore.
Maison Merlet has been producing Cognac since 1850 and was founded by Gilles' grandfather Firmit Merlet. Located in the village of Saint Sauvant, the estate has been achieving recognition from connoisseurs since its humble beginnings, with Monsieur Merlet even managing to earn the gold medal for his Cognac at the World Exhibition in 1900.
With their estate spread across the Fins Bois and Borderies terroirs, the family have worked with many winegrowers to source and distil eaux-de-vie from crus all over the region, using the family's ancestral expertise to create a number of award-winning and exciting products.
Presentation of the Bottle
Bold and elegant, the bottle certainly stands out among its contemporaries. The glass is embossed with the Merlet emblem and decorated with a simple but well-designed violet label, beautifully complementing the liquid contained within.
How to Enjoy Merlet Liqueur C2 Cassis au Cognac
This complex liqueur can be drunk neat or on the rocks, but of course, it also shines in many cocktails. Mix it with Champagne for a Kir Royale or stir up a Parisian - equal parts gin, dry vermouth and cassis, a classic from the 1930s. Its sweet, fruity notes are also a perfect match with dark chocolate desserts or poured over vanilla ice cream.
About Merlet Cognac
With a traceable history dating back to 1850, the Merlet family have continued to produce cognac, alongside a continually growing range of other products, to the current day. Headed today by Gilles Merlet, his sons Pierre and Luc joined the business a few years back, bringing with them a new generation of enthusiasm and direction. Although the house Distillerie Merlet & Fils originally produced eaux-de-vie for some of the most prestigious cognac houses in the world of cognac, they are now famous in their own right, not only for their quality cognacs, but for their innovative range of other products that sell around the globe.
