Eye: Bright gold.

Nose: Delicate grape aromas blend with pleasant notes of plum, apricot and lemon curd.

Palate: The luscious mouthfeel gives way to wildflower honey and a bouquet of freshly cut violets, while the medium-length finish is graced by a soft, lingering almond sweetness.

Description

Young but Refined - A Single Distillery VS From Martell

A blend of eaux-de-vie from both the Petite and Grande Champagne growing areas, the Martell VS Single Distillery Limited Edition Cognac has been distilled, blended and aged for two years by a single unnamed distillery. By using spirits from a single distillation source, House of Martell has created a richer and more intense expression of their VS style. With its fruity aromas of plums, apricots and candied lemon, this is an award-winning cognac which, despite its young age, exceeds the reputation of its home.

Out of the four major Cognac houses, House of Martell is famous for exclusively distilling clear wines, without the lees, to better preserve the lighter aromas of the grapes and reveal an extreme finesse. Their eaux-de-vie are then aged only in casks made from fine-grained wood sourced from the Tronçais forest in central France, giving a lighter wood influence and preserving the most delicate grape aromas.

The history of Martell Cognac dates back to 1715, when Jean Martell, a young merchant from Jersey, founded his own trading business at Gatebourse in Cognac. Here on the banks of the River Charente his grand house still stands today, a worldwide Cognac icon that continues to innovate and evolve with the times.

Presentation of the bottle

The visual presentation of Martell VS Single Distillery is flawlessly elegant. This offering revives the iconic shape of the traditional montre Cognac bottle and the restructured cap is sealed with a beige paper ribbon. Both the cork and the label have been stamped with Jean Martell’s signature, the founder of Martell Cognac.

How to enjoy

While the Martell VS Single Distillery Cognac is fantastic on its own, it’s also the perfect ingredient for long drinks and cocktails. We recommend Martell’s Sidecar recipe, which received the ‘cocktail recommendation’ medal at the Ultimate Spirits Challenge 2018:

Sidecar de Charente

  • 50ml Martell VS Single Distillery
  • 25ml Triple Sec
  • 20ml Fresh lemon juice
  • 15ml Pineau de Charentes
  • Lemon zest

Pour all ingredients into the cocktail shaker and shake well until the metal gets frosted. Double strain into a coupette glass and garnish with a lemon zest.

About Martell Cognac

Martell is the oldest of the Big Four Cognac houses. Similar to Rémy Martin, but a few years older still, not long ago did Martell celebrate its 300-year anniversary. The history of Martell & Co dates back to 1715 when Jean Martell founded the company with the wish to produce only the highest quality in Cognac. With the legendary bottles Martell Cordon Bleu, the cuvée Martell Extra L’Or de Jean Martell and the recent Création Grand Extra from 2007, the company strongly implanted itself in the luxury goods market, and are famous for using large amounts of eaux-de-vie from the Borderies terroir. It belongs to Pernod Ricard and has sales of around 15 million liters every year. The most precious eaux-de-vie, some of which date back to 1830, are stored in a secret location in the cellars of Jean Martell - approximately 1.6 million 9-liter cases!
