A Blue and Gold Marbled Delight: Martell Cordon Bleu Mathias Kiss Limited Edition

There is little more iconic than the Cordon Bleu, and to celebrate the new year of 2020, Martell offers us a special edition - the Martell XO Cordon Bleu Limited Edition by Mathias Kiss. Parisian artist and designer, Mathias Kiss used the Martell estate as inspiration for this contemporary design. Reimagined time and time again, Martell Cordon Bleu is one of the cornerstones of XO Cognac.

While walking around the Château de Chanteloup, he came across a rare ‘Grand Antique’ French marble. He mixed the marble effect with gold to glorify the iconic Cordon Bleu, and in doing so, strikes a perfect balance between the foundations of the house and its modern developments.

The Cordon Bleu Cognac is of an XO quality, and is something of a legend in the Cognac world. The recipe hasn’t been altered over the years, and a large number of its 150 eaux-de-vie come from the prestigious Borderies cru, composed largely of clay and flint. Cellar Master, Christophe Valtaud emphasises the importance of the Borderies aroma and complexity.

Mathias Kiss started out as a craftsman restoring historic buildings, and then entered into the world of contemporary art. His avant-garde vision transforms antique marble into a precious motif of gold and blue. The status of the Cognac becomes immediately apparent. The collaboration comes as a result of Maison Martell’s decision to harness the talent of four creatives. From diverse domains and cultures, they have all forged their own path to success, much like the founder of Martell Cognac - Jean Martell himself.

Martell Cordon Bleu Awards

This has certainly caught the attention of spirit critics in its time, winning multiple awards such as:

  • San Francisco Gold 2018 Silver Cognac
  • XO - 2013 International Wine & Spirit Competition

The bottle represents an international emblem of excellence, plucked straight from the chateau itself. The bottle is gold leaf colored, with marbled flecks of deep royal blue. It will make a beautiful gift for any Cognac lover.

How to enjoy the Martell Cordon Bleu 2020 Limited Edition

70cl When a drink is of this quality, it's only right that the flavor is allowed to speak for itself. Enjoy it neat or over ice.

About Martell Cognac

Martell is the oldest of the Big Four Cognac houses. Similar to Rémy Martin, but a few years older still, not long ago did Martell celebrate its 300-year anniversary. The history of Martell & Co dates back to 1715 when Jean Martell founded the company with the wish to produce only the highest quality in Cognac. With the legendary bottles Martell Cordon Bleu, the cuvée Martell Extra L’Or de Jean Martell and the recent Création Grand Extra from 2007, the company strongly implanted itself in the luxury goods market, and are famous for using large amounts of eaux-de-vie from the Borderies terroir. It belongs to Pernod Ricard and has sales of around 15 million liters every year. The most precious eaux-de-vie, some of which date back to 1830, are stored in a secret location in the cellars of Jean Martell - approximately 1.6 million 9-liter cases!
