Tasting review

Color: Rich copper-gold with amber highlights.

Nose: Immediate silkiness with soft spice; cardamom and cinnamon over candied citrus and stone fruit. Layers of acacia honey, dried rose petals and a hint of briar-rose jam emerge with air.

Palate: Velvety and rounded. Ripe apricot and preserved orange meet gentle baking spice, light toffee and floral notes. The texture glides while subtle rancio and dried flowers add depth.

Finish: Long and persistent, combining sweet spice, floral tones and a faint cocoa-honey echo.

Description

Hennessy Paradis Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026 Cognac

Hennessy Paradis is the house’s most silk-textured blend, composed from a broad selection of very old eaux-de-vie drawn from Hennessy’s rare reserves. For 2026, the Lunar New Year edition honors the Year of the Horse, presenting the Paradis signature in a celebratory red-and-gold presentation. The liquid inside remains Paradis at 40% ABV: a Cognac known for grace, fragrance and a finish that seems to unfold without hurry.

The palate profile is built on mature eaux-de-vie aged for long periods in French oak, chosen for softness rather than overt tannin. The result is a Cognac that first shows delicacy—hints of cinnamon and candied fruit—then segues to floral notes that recall dried roses and honeyed blossom. Paradis plays on contrast: spice set against gentle sweetness, depth balanced by lift. Texture is central here: the mouthfeel is notably smooth, with flavors that expand steadily rather than spiking, giving a sense of continuous flow from first sip through the aftertaste.

Aromatically, expect a conversation between spice and flowers. Cinnamon and light cardamom frame aromas of preserved citrus, apricot and pear. As the glass rests, tones of acacia honey and dried petals appear, joined by a faint briar-rose or rose-jam impression. Oak remains in the background, shaping the curve of the flavors rather than taking the lead. On the palate, ripe stone fruit, candied peel and gentle pastry notes meet a discreet rancio signature, adding nuttiness and a whisper of mushroom-truffle complexity without weight. The finish is long, polished and quietly persistent, with spice and floral notes returning in waves.

This limited presentation celebrates a zodiac sign associated with energy and forward motion. While the design speaks to the festival moment, the blend itself is timeless in style. Paradis has long been defined by the selection breadth available to Hennessy’s blenders—eaux-de-vie that have rested for decades, some far beyond a human generation—allowing them to assemble a Cognac that favors texture, perfume and balance over overt power. In the glass, that approach translates to immediate approachability coupled with depth for extended tasting.

Presentation of the bottle

Based on the image provided, the decanter follows the elegant Paradis silhouette with a pear-shaped body finished in a satin gold tone. A dynamic horse motif is visible across the front, rendered in sweeping lines that appear to be brushed or etched, creating movement and a subtle play of light on the metallic surface. The brand name “Hennessy” and the word “PARADIS” are printed in white, with “RARE COGNAC” below.

The neck is wrapped with a vivid red collar patterned in fine gold graphics and the words “ART BY … ZHEN” repeated around the band, signaling a special artist collaboration for this release. Capping the bottle is a clear, domed stopper that adds height and a jewel-like finishing touch. The presentation case is striking: a sculpted red shell with a gentle wave-like relief and a natural wood-grain texture. Gold typography spells out “Hennessy PARADIS” along with “RARE COGNAC.” The interior appears warm-toned, framing the decanter as a centerpiece. Together, the red and gold palette underscores the celebratory Lunar New Year theme while keeping the overall look clean and modern.

How to drink

Enjoy this Cognac neat in a tulip glass to concentrate the floral and honeyed aromatics. Pour a modest measure, then give it time: five to ten minutes of rest reveals deeper layers—dried flowers, candied citrus and soft spice. If you prefer a cooler serve, one large, clear cube will soften the spice while keeping dilution slow; avoid crushed ice, which mutes the perfume.

For food moments, pair with textures and flavors that mirror its poise rather than compete with it. Aged Comté or Beaufort highlight the nutty, honeyed side; jamón ibérico or thin-sliced duck breast accentuate the savory depth; for dessert, consider an apricot tart, almond-based pastries or dark chocolate around 70–80% cocoa. As an aperitif, a single splash of cool spring water can open the bouquet; as a late-evening pour, serve slightly warmer than room temperature to amplify the floral tones. Cocktails are not required here, but if you do choose one, keep it minimalist—an ultra-refined Sidecar with restrained citrus, or a simple “fine à l’eau” (still or sparkling water with a lemon twist) to showcase the Cognac’s texture.

Whether you are marking the turn of the lunar calendar or seeking a centerpiece for a special occasion, this limited presentation of Hennessy Paradis offers both visual impact and a polished, layered tasting experience.

About Hennessy Cognac

You may think, that with Hennessy’s ability to innovate and push boundaries, they are a thoroughly ‘modern’ Cognac brand. This is a large part of their immense success and influence. The very French brand based in the Charente region, in fact, dates all the way back to 1765 - to Ireland - but have managed to shapeshift enough times to remain more relevant than ever before - with current Master Blender Renaud Fillioux. Their range of uber-trendy products is ever expanding, and their marketing campaigns all the more captivating. There is no doubt that ‘Henny’ culture is alive and kicking: both Cognac and a fifth of Hennessy are mentioned in what seems like hundreds of songs.
