Maison Laurichesse

Maison Laurichesse

Two family brands for unique expertise

Representing a connection between the past and the present, Maison Laurichesse is a young brand, created in 2018 by Léa and Olivier Laurichesse as Laurichesse Cognac. The couple met in Segonzac, while Léa was studying viticulture and Olivier was already working on the family vineyard. Together, they decided to create a brand under which they could begin to release Cognacs created by Olivier’s father in the 1970s as well as the selection of the brand Paul Beau.

Laurichesse Futs 301, 104, 300 and 212 are like four children from the same family, each with wildly different personalities. And Fut 212 is a nice new addition, with its intriguing exotic character. It’s remarkable to think that such different Cognacs came from the same cellar, all from the Grande Champagne, from the same plots of vines in Verrieres, distilled by the same person, in the same period of years (1970s), with the same oak policy, and the same aging period.

Stylistically they do share a few key traits: richness (these are not dainty Cognacs), balance, and an impression that time has not left a single wrinkle on them.

It seems Laurichesse can do no wrong. They clearly have a vision on exactly how they want to compose their line of single barrel Cognacs. These four Cognacs alone are perfect proof of the diversity one can find in Cognac - yet alone in a single cellar.

So what Laurichesse are you?

  • The classic Grande Champagne? Fût 301
  • The creamy, toasty, and earthy? Fût 104
  • The Armagnac whisperer? Fût 300
  • The Exotic? Fût 212

Laurichesse: Le Chai de Mon Père -

My Father’s Cellar

The true art of Cognac making requires a unique blend of skill, passion, heritage, and a touch of mystery; the house of Laurichesse has each of these ingredients in perfect measure.

Laurichesse was launched in 2018, by Olivier and Léa, partners in life and in Cognac production. The couple has their own 40 hectares Grande Champagne vineyard in Roissac which Olivier decided to take on after spending many years tending to his family’s vines in Verrières. With a shared love for Cognac, and a synergistic working relationship, Olivier and Léa had a dream of producing their own bottlings of eau-de-vie. However it was Olivier’s father, Guy, who would prove to be the fundamental piece of the puzzle in what would become Laurichesse.

In the 1970s Guy had taken care of the family vineyard and there he had distilled Cognac in the old 12hl alambic, still present on the property today. Over the next 40 or so years, the eaux-de-vie had been patiently waiting, still within its barrels, in a small and secret cellar at the bottom of Guy’s garden. It was only when Olivier and Léa were discussing their future dreams that Olivier remembered his father’s secret stash, as if it called to him, and the couple requested to taste the mysterious eaux-de-vie.

Fast forward four years and Olivier and Léa have tasted all the eaux-de-vie from Guy’s cellar, and are now ready to release this special range, which consists of two single cask Cognacs, and best honors the brilliant work of Guy. Both releases were distilled in the 1970s by Guy, and were carefully selected and bottled so as to highlight the extent of Guy’s craft and know-how, meaning there has been no reduction or addition of any additives or flavorings.

Together, Olivier, Léa, and Guy make the perfect team. Olivier acts as cellar master and is responsible for distilling, bottling, and labeling future Cognacs, whilst Léa handles the communication, marketing, and some design. At almost 80 years old, and despite supposedly retiring 15 years ago, Guy’s passion is still going strong and you will find him keeping a wise and watchful eye over all the goings-on. This collection from Laurichesse is aptly named, ‘Le Chais de Mon Père’, which translates to ‘My Father’s Cellar’.

Read Taylor's detailed tasting about the first releases: Fût 104 and Fût 301.

Olivier and Léa are both native to Segonzac where they are based today with their three children, yet they did not find each other until 2010 when Léa returned to Segonzac to study at the University of Eaux-de-vie. Prior to meeting and falling in love, Olivier had been gaining experience and learning the trade of Cognac viticulture. Having come from a long line of winegrowers he had always wanted to work in the Cognac vineyards, and after receiving a scientific baccalaureate, Olivier proceeded to study for a degree in viticulture and enology. Following his studies, Olivier started out working in Alsace and then in Médoc, before returning to the family property in 2003 to hone his craft under the skilled guidance of his father, Guy, who had been distilling eaux-de-vie all his life

Léa, who was still yet to meet Olivier, had pursued her passion in wine and spirits, obtaining a license in the trade in 2008 and proceeding to complete a three-month internship in New York working for an importer-distributor. It was upon returning to Segonzac in France to continue her studies that Léa found a kindred soul in Olivier who was working on his family’s vineyard, and the two decided never to part.

The importance of family to Olivier and Léa is clear to see (and taste), and something that they wanted to portray in their branding. The Laurichesse logo bears a lion and a lioness, to represent Olivier and Léa, and three Fleur de Lys which signify the couple’s three children. Based on this impressive first range from Laurichesse and knowing that their territory spans two vineyards in the Grande Champagne region, we’re excited to see what this pride will release next.

Nose: Dessert in a glass. Chocolate, oak spice, and fruit. The fruit profile is redder in nature than typically associated with Grande Champagne Cognacs (and very different from Casks 301 and 104). Dried plums, figs, dates, red raisins, and fruit pastes. Good richness but has a sharpness from the oak and the red nature of the fruit. Savoury. A beautiful albeit atypical nose! One to contemplate!

Palate: Flavor-rich and texture-rich. Sweet and sour. Dried and candied red fruit profile: pastes, figs, dried plums, and other candied fruits - but each with red tones. Chocolate and spice. Oak tannins and red apple skin bitterness. The alcohol level is well managed.

Finish: Oak tannins, apple skin bitterness, and more typical mango and apricot fruits appear on the finish. Long, persistent.

About this new Laurichesse Cognac

Laurichesse Fût 300 Cognac is a brut de fût Cognac bottled at 49% and originating from the same cellar as Laurichesse’s iconic Fût 301 and Fût 104. Having spent its aging process in a Limousin oak barrel, this Cognac was bottled just in the nick of time. There are only 140 bottles are available, making it a rare and exclusive offering not to be missed. And with a blissfully unique aromatic profile to enjoy, you’ll want to savor this one down to every last drop.

A tasting explosion, Fût 300 is like dessert in a glass, with notes of chocolate, oak spice and fruit. With beautifully rich flavor and texture, a sweet and sour contrast prevails with a dried and red fruit profile on the palate. Offering a unique profile for its Grande Champagne cru, and compared with other Cognacs in the Laurichesse, this Cognac unveils traces similar to Armagnac with its dried/candied reddish fruit aromas and nuances of heavily sherried whisky alongside the sweet and sour, savoury fruit and oak profile. Delicious!

This range is called Le Chai de mon Père (‘The Cellar of My Father’). Each barrel of single casks eau-de-vie has been carefully selected and bottled in its natural condition to highlight Guy's work skills and quality. The History

Olivier and Léa are both natives of Segonzac.

Olivier comes from a long line of winegrowers and has always wanted to work in the Cognac vineyards. With his scientific baccalaureate in hand, it was only natural for him to a BTS in viticulture and oenology. Olivier cut his teeth in Alsace, then in the Médoc before returning to the family estate in 2003. In 2015, he decided to farm 40ha of vines alone vines in Grande Champagne and set up his business in Roissac (Angeac-Champagne).

Léa has always been passionate about wine and spirits. She focused her studies in this field, graduating in 2008 with a degree in wine and spirits. a 3-month internship in the United States. In 2009, she worked for a New York-based importer-distributor before returning to France, where she resumed her studies.

In 2010, while Léa was studying at the Université des Eaux-de-vie in Segonzac, she met up again with Olivierand they decided to stay together.

In 2018, one marriage and 3 children later, Léa and Olivier launched their "Laurichesse" brand to showcase the cognacs distilled by Guy (Olivier's father) in the 70s. Stored in casks, these cognacs are bottled without reduction and reveal different facets of Grande Champagne.

Initially called "Hommage", the range is now called "Le Chai de mon Père".

In 2023, Olivier's mother entrusted him with 20ha of vines in Segonzac. At the same time, he became manager of the "Paul Beau" brand, in which he had already owned half the shares for 10 years.

Today, these are the 2 complementary brands nestled under the brand Maison Laurichesse that Léa and Olivier are delighted you to discover. See here for the Paul Beau products.

The Cognac

The current range of Laurichesse Cognac seeks to highlight eaux-de-vie distilled by Olivier’s father Guy in the 1970s. Distilled in a 12hl still on the family property of Verrières, these Cognacs have been stored in French oak casks and give a fantastic insight into the individual character of small-scale Cognac production.
