ハインの素晴らしいVSOPであるレアはファイン・シャンパーニュに分類され、使用されるオー・ド・ヴィは全てグランド・シャンパーニュまたはプティット・シャンパーニュ地区のものである。グランド・シャンパーニュ地区（60％）とプティット・シャンパーニュ地区（40％）のユニ・ブラン種を使用し、フランス産リムーザンオークの樽で6年から12年熟成させたハイネ・レアのVSOPブレンドには、約25種類のオー・ド・ヴィが使用されている。
18世紀、ドーセット出身のトーマス・ハインという名の青年が、コニャック生産者の管理業務を請け負うためにジャルナックにやってきたのが、ハイン・コニャックの歴史の始まりである。彼はすぐに経営者の娘フランソワーズ＝エリザベットと恋に落ち、一族に嫁いだ。経営者の義理の息子となったトマは、上級職を務めることができるようになり、その財務能力を活かして大きな改革を行い、フランス国外への貿易を発展させた。1817年、彼は正式に社名をトーマス・ハイン＆カンパニーに変更した。
現在、ハインは高級シャンパーニュの栽培地域のみに専念しており、ボンヌイユ村のそばの115ヘクタールの土地を管理している。ユニ・ブランのブドウの木は、石灰岩が混じった丘を覆い尽くし、最も暑い夏でも石灰質の土壌から栄養分と水分を深く引き出している。
ハイン・レアVSOPは2003年と2007年に金賞を受賞し、ワイン・エンスージアスト誌では100点満点中93点を獲得している。
ハイン・レアVSOPは、細かくカットされたティアドロップ型のデカンタに収められており、ネックにはゴールドのバンドが巻かれている。ボトルの上部には鹿の絵が彫られた木製のストッパーが取り付けられ、エレガントな紙製のラベルには、ハインの名前が特徴的な赤色ではっきりと記されている。
このリッチなVSOPコニャックは、伝統的なチューリップ・グラスでディジェスティフとして、または夜遅くまで楽しむのに最適です。豪華なチョコレートのデザートや温かいエスプレッソとの相性も抜群です。
I like its bottle for this price, that's just before I've tried it.. Smell was nice, not too much nor too thin, with fruit notes like apricot and dried fruits. In mouth, got chocolate, little wood note, spice, and only moderate length aftertaste. A little dry with fruity aromas. Not wow, but...
It took me a while to appreciate this excellent cognac. It reeks of quality and I love the dry taste with excellent flavors. In Canada, where this is expensive, the price is far too high for the quality it presents. Here it sells for $110 canadian, when it sells for $50 in the U.S. For me, this is...
Lovely big fruity front end. Not terribly complex, but clean as a whistle. Oranges at first, but it quickly shows some hazelnut chocolate. A medium to long finish. Not terribly intense, but delightful gentle spices. This is very pleasant stuff. I would drink it anytime.
