Pasquet "L'Esprit de Famille" Elisabeth Cognac: A Petite Champagne vintage gem dripping in history
The Pasquet "L'Esprit de Famille" Elisabeth Cognac is an outstanding, vintage selection made up of eau-de-vie from the Petite Champagne cru. This extra special Cognac is named after Elisabeth Belenfant, the daughter of Paul Lamauret who founded the Cognac house; La Grange du Bois.
Distilled in the late 80s, the eau-de-vie was allowed to languish in humid cellars for more than 30 years. It took until 2020 to mature to perfection and was selected earlier in the year to be bottled as a single cask Cognac. With fewer than 400 bottles in the barrel, and containing some of the last eaux-de-vie harvested from this now extinct Cognac house - each bottle should be valued as a real treasure with a real story to tell.
Whilst La Grande du Bois will no longer continue to produce Cognac, Elisabeth and her family have left a lasting impression on many local Cognac producers who admired their work and the wonderful Cognacs the Maison curated. In 2020, Elisabeth has now sold the remaining eaux-de-vie that had been preserved over the years in the old, damp cellars. Hence, Maison Pasquet’s role in ensuring that such fine eaux-de-vie is shared with the world through the “L’esprit de Famille” collection.
Presentation of the bottle
Bottled on October 2nd 2020, only 398 numbered bottles are available, making this Vintage Cognac a jewel worth cherishing. Presented in an elegant and classic decanter. The hand-written label offers an authentic touch, and reflects upon the years of tradition that went into creating the eaux-de-vie, which carries such a long history. A gem that should not go unnoticed by connoisseurs and collectors alike.
How to enjoy
As with many vintage Cognacs like this, it’s best served neat. A single year vintage like this one should be saved to be appreciated amongst friends or loved ones, in celebration of a special birthday or anniversary.
Do yourself a favour......
a dark amber colour in a very special bottle.... already this unique presentation is a eye catcher.
with over 46% alcohol I was surprised to smell already a well balanced bouquet of aromas without getting a too much spicy impression, vanilla, toffee, caramel, but also little splashes of lemon, magnolia, pears and black pepper.
Above counts for the palate also with some sensationnal meltings , the alcohol does not hurt , a creamy fulfilling mixture of the various agrumes comes in addition to the described. The finish is very smooth, long and not rough at all.
A Cognac to drink neat, no ice to put you would just harm it. It is just a very great experience to enjoy.
About Pasquet Cognac
Certified organic Cognac house Pasquet perfectly strikes the balance between the warmth of family tradition and innovative savoir-faire. In order to revive a plot of vines during the 1990s, the Pasquet family reached deep into their ancestral history to rediscover its organic farming methods. It was here that they found a beautiful equilibrium not only in the ecosystem of their vines, but also in the Cognacs themselves. Since being awarded ‘Agriculture Biologique’ status in 1998, they haven’t looked back, continuing to craft small-batch Cognacs that epitomize natural beauty and balance. With versatile ranges such as ‘L’Organic’ and ‘Esprit de la Famille,’ the Pasquet family ensures that every step of production respects the environment, resulting in a very special collection of Cognacs.
