An Homage to Christian Meslier: A Petite Champagne stunner
Jean Luc Pasquet presents their next addition to the ‘L’Esprit de Famille’ range that honor individuals in the Cognac world. The Pasquet L’Esprit de Famille Christian Cognac is a Hors d'Age bottle that honors Christian Meslier, by selecting the finest 300-liter cask of Cognac produced in his Chateauneuf-sur-Charente vineyards of the Petite Champagne cru.
The small barrel was not full, but the Cognac that it contained was flavorful and unique among the eleven casks that they tasted with its eponymous wine-grower/distiller, Christian. His legacy has now been immortalized in the form of this Cognac by Pasquet, an elegant tribute using a beautiful blend of eaux-de-vie.
The Cognac de Christian itself presents rich aromas of brown sugar, nutmeg and praline along with dessert-like and spiced qualities on the palate. The afterglow is lengthy and palpable.
Presentation of the bottle
Labeled "Christian’s Cognac" and emblazoned with the JLP signature stamp and hallmark of quality. This elegantly slim bottle is finished with a wax seal, reminiscent of the oak casks it is left to mature in.
The wonderfully deep amber color of the Cognac reflects beautifully, accented with the hand-written effect labels that offer an insight into this Cognac's history of provenance.
Excellent Single Cask Cognac
Single Cask Cognac that was distilled in 1988 from 100% Petite Champagne. It was bottled at Cask Strength, 54.1%, and yielded 303 bottles. 11 casks were sampled, and they chose a winner!! Lovely notes of nut, brown sugar, and some spice on the nose, with some fruit notes appearing as it opens more. The palate delivers everything on the nose, along with some additional peppery spices, and in a long finish!! Great stuff! My score was 92.5
