N°45 Fins Bois by Maison Grosperrin: a Natural Beauty
Grosperrin N°45 Fins Bois Cognac delights without the need for any bells or whistles. Made from grapes grown on the esteemed soil of the Fins Bois, this is a rare Cognac from a fantastic family-run house. At 52.1% ABV and presented in a classy Cognacaise bottle, this is an irresistible package that lets the impeccable nature of its terroir do the talking.
Grosperrin, led by Guilhem Grosperrin, is an independent family-run business with a charming history. Guilhem’s father Jean Grosperrin is the founder, and he worked as a shepherd and sheep shearer before becoming a distiller in the early 80s and eventually developing this thriving cognac house. Committed to revealing the intrinsic spirit of Charente heritage, Guilhem proudly carries on his father’s legacy. The cellars used by Grosperrin boast constant moderate humidity levels, ideal for making remarkable eaux-de-vie, with the limestone soil of the Fins Bois creating the perfect terroir for growing long-lasting vines to carry an abundance of fruit.
On the nose, N°45 Fins Bois is a natural beauty, notes of exotic fruit, lime and honey combining with limestone to achieve clarity and balance. Rancio joins the family to assert a welcome earthiness, and notes of mushrooms and old cellars complete the picture of a classic cognac that nonetheless offers a fresh liveliness.
N°45 Fins Bois attacks the palate with a frank flavor and alluring oily quality, very well balanced despite the high volume at 52.1%. Earthy rancio revisits the palate and an overall experience of purity is realized. The finish is long and dense, a delightfully full tasting experience.
Amber and honey hues render the bottle alluring and charming, inviting every Cognac aficionado to indulge in the fruits of this fantastic terroir.
About Grosperrin Cognac
The independent Cognac house of Grosperrin is a relatively new one in the region, having only been established in 1999 by its founder, Jean Grosperrin. Grosperrin is based in Saintes which sits between the terroirs of Fins Bois and Borderies and it is today run by Jean’s son, Guilhelm, who took over in 2004 at just 23 years old.
Guilhelm’s mission is to discover producers all across the region in order to create truly unique Cognacs from the six crus. This vision was made possible by the fantastic relationships Jean Grosperrin built with producers, and that Guilhelm has since built on and expanded. Today, Grosperrin works with over 150 Cognac producers, from which Guilhelm will meticulously select barrels to craft into exquisite end bottles.
