Bouquet: Plum blossom is dominant, combined with fragrances of nutty notes and sweet spices, especially nutmeg. A slight hint of candied orange blends with the nobility of a robust oaky scent in the finish.

Palate: Delicate notes of prune combine harmoniously with a subtle touch of rancio. A sweet flavour of candied fruit lingers on the taste buds while a pinch of spices caresses the palate.

Description

Baron Otard Collection Du Roi Cognac

A rare and complex blend of carefully selected eaux-de-vie. This offering is one of the rarest expressions from the house of Baron Otard, with only limited batches of the special liquid to ever leave Baron Otard’s Royal Castle home. It blends two ancestral expressions of eaux-de-vie that have been kept for decades in the estates cellars there. An exceptional Cognac collectable that is presented in a crystal decanter with a bespoke presentation case.

La Collection du Roi is the fruit of decades of work reaching the highest levels of excellence. The rarest eaux-de-vie have been carefully kept for generations to craft la Collection du Roi.

This exclusive limited edition Cognac has been stored in the cellars of the Royal Chateau in Cognac itself, a castle that is rich in history and the birthplace of King François the first in 1494. An estate steeping in expertise, savoir-faire, history and tradition, the cellar boasts a collection of Cognacs that dates as far back as 1760.

The history of Baron Otard Cognac dates back to 1795, when Jean-Baptise Antoine Otard, grandson of the Scottish Baron James Otard, had returned from to France from his exile in England. Jean-Baptise came from a family of winemakers, and was rumored to have developed his own Cognac in exile which he took with him to his hometown in France. Upon his return, he was able to purchase the Royal Chateau in Cognac at auction, saving it from demolition. Here, behind dense stone walls and with a humid microclimate provided by the River Charente, Jean-Baptise launched his own Cognac company, then known as Maison Otard. Today the Chateau is a tourist attraction, but still houses the casks of eau-de-vie, used in the curation of Baron Otard Cognac.

Presentation of the bottle

An emblem of luxury and strength, the mouth-blown crystal decanter is protected in a handmade box, covered with silk, leather, gold leaf and lacquered wood. Attention to detail and the elegant finishing touches are what makes the presentation of this Cognac so special and truly fit for a king. To finish such regal design work, the bottle is topped with a crystal crown stopper making it not only fit for a King but jewelling the Cognac as royal itself.

How to enjoy

Rare and unique Cognacs like the Collection du Roi range deserve your utmost attention: pour gently into a tulip glass and let it rest for 30 seconds, sip slowly and let this one of a kind Cognac do the talking. For a slightly different tasting experience, add a small dash of mineral water to allow the aromas to open up even further. Prunier recommends serving this particular Cognac as a digestive as it is a pleasant Cognac to taste at the end of a meal with a cigar.

About Otard Cognac

With an ancient tradition tracing back to the Middle Ages, and to the great Norwegian Viking Ottar, this Cognac dynasty has an incredibly unique history. Around the same period, the iconic Chateau de Cognac was built on the banks of the Charente, and was largely associated with the French monarchy. Eventually, the two histories would merge with the arrival of the Cognac Maison Otard, founded in 1795. Today, the Chateau is the home of Baron Otard Cognac, who are amongst the most recognized in quality. The elegant teardrop bottles are a beautiful symbol for the simultaneously traditional and modern values of Cognac Otard.
