19th century Cognac served on the Cote d’Azur: Grande Champagne Spécial Réserve 1810

This collector’s item oozes style, age and grace. Procured originally from the cellars of the Hotel de Paris in Monte Carlo in the south of France, it is an investment into a little piece of 19th century history. Produced in the Cognac region more than two centuries ago in 1810, it is made using grapes solely from the prestigious Grande Champagne terroir.

Not only that, but a Special Reserve Cognac typically blends eaux-de-vie from the ‘Paradis’ cellar of a Cognac house. This is where the most valuable, and oldest Cognac barrels lie and bide their time. A Réserve Cognac is typically around 25 years old or more.

We are not sure who produced this very old collector’s bottle, but we know that if it was produced for the high-flying clientele of a hotel in Monte Carlo, it will be something incredible.

Monte Carlo, a luxurious town on the Cote d’Azur, has a traceable history of international visitors thanks to its seductive casino and mythical decor. It’s no wonder, then, that this very old bottle of Cognac has been discovered. It is a special reserve bottle of eaux-de-vie that dates back over 200 years.

Up until the 19th century when this bottle was stocked, Monte Carlo was but a Mediterranean plateau made up of olive, orange and lemon trees. When the Prince of Monaco built a casino on the rock jutting over the peninsula, the principality was flocked to by international visitors.

Story of the bottle

Its age certainly shows, but that’s why we love this collector’s item. The bottle was owned by a relative of the cellar who passed away. He was an avid collector and was particularly proud of this bottle.

Presentation of the bottle

The bottle looks like it has truly stood the test of time. It is very old, and simple, with the seal intact. The label is slightly yellowed with age, but we believe that’s what gives it a unique character.
