Chainier Pineau des Charentes Rubis

The Chainier Pineau des Charentes Rubis only made during exceptional years, when the grape harvest is of exceptional quality. It has been produced from Merlot grapes with a good balance of acidity and sugar, which are macerated for 36 hours before the juice is extracted in a pneumatic press under low pressure. After sitting for 12 hours, some old Petite Champagne Cognac is added to the obtained juice in order to avoid fermentation. During the first winter, the Pineau Rubis is kept in stainless steel vats after which it is transferred to oak casks. It will be left to mature and gain exceptional complexity, then filtered and clarified before bottling.

The Chainier family, originally from the Petite Champagne region, have been making Pineau de Charentes for generations. It was in 1970 that Guy Chainier and his son Dominique began to work together on a range of Cognacs, and in the 1980s Dominique Chainier took over the family property in Arthenac to develop the retail side of the business. Branching out from the smaller of the two Champagne regions, the family purchased an 18-hectare vineyard in Grande Champagne, expanding their product potential significantly.

Fiercely independent, the family continue marketing their own products today, with Dominique Chainier and his grandson Clément reaching people around the world through their website as well as numerous trade fairs.

Presentation of the Bottle

The Chainier Pineau des Charentes Rubis comes in a tall, straight bottle, a classic style which was originally popular in the 19th century. The understated label features the Chainier emblem and the bottle is sealed with oxblood-red foil on the neck.

How to Enjoy Chainier Pineau des Charentes Rubis

Pineau des Charentes Rubis functions equally well as an aperitif drink and a dessert wine, but always best served cold at 5-6°C. Fruitier and smoother than the Pineau Rosé, it matches many desserts like chocolate or fruit cakes or even red fruits sorbets.

Like red wines, Pineau des Charentes Rubis contains polyphenols and tannins which can form a deposit in the bottle. This deposit does not reduce the quality of the product.

À propos de Chainier Cognac

For generations, the Chainier family has been producing Cognac in both of the Champagne terroirs in Cognac. The current estate consists of a familial vineyard in the town of Arthenac and an 18-hectare estate in Lignières-Sonneville, both acquired by Dominique Chainier in the 1980s. Maintaining control of their production as well as their branding and marketing, the family produce a high-quality range of traditional Cognac as well as Pineau de Charentes, which they have been making since 1966.
