A Forgotten Beauty Unearthed from the Cellar: Cognac Lheraud XO L'Oublié
L’Oublié’ or the ‘Forgotten’ XO of the Lheraud Paradis cellar is one to savor, as it is produced with a mastery of both traditional and modern Cognac production methods - and for this bottle in particular.
Aged for at least 10 years in oak casks, we suspect that given the age of some of their Cognacs, it has been aged for far longer - and the design of the bottle is reminiscent of a style from decades ago.
Lheraud are masters of many different terroirs, but ultimately, they are a traditional Cognac house whose methods extend back for hundreds of years. Today’s owners, André and Guy Leheraud work tirelessly to help their heritage endure into the future.
We like to think that this very elegant XO was stumbled upon by chance, after having delved deep into their chai. Expect a multifaceted bouquet with a roasted hint of cacao and spice on the nose, which transforms into a velvety, vanilla delight on the palate. The maturity in the mouth suggests that this is a very well aged Cognac indeed.
Presentation of the decanter
This is a striking decanter; a geometric shape and lilac labeling. We adore the black and white dotted presentation box that harks back to the style of the 1980s.
Could this be a Cognac from all those years ago? It is bottled slightly overproof at 42% ABV. How to enjoy Enjoy this elegant Cognac neat as a digestif.
Or perhaps even drop in an ice cube to experience the subtle changes in aroma and flavor.
À propos de Lheraud Cognac
The family Lheraud have been involved in winemaking and cognac production for hundreds of years, but it was only in 1970 that exportation and promotion really began in earnest. Now producing not only cognac, but Pineau des Charentes and Armagnac as well, Lheraud exports its wares worldwide – and continues to expand into more countries on a yearly basis. Today’s owners – Andrée and Guy Lheraud – concentrate on producing Cognac Lheraud strictly on a traditional basis, and continue to work tirelessly to introduce their products to more countries and communities throughout the world.
