Grosperrin Cognac de Collection Vintage from 1973 Petite Champagne
Forming part of the legendary Cognac de Collection, the Grosperrin Vintage 1973 Petite Champagne Brut de Fût Cognac is an ode to the art of barrel aging. This very old Millésime Cognac stands out for its impeccable balance, and like many of the Grosperrin Cognacs, it comes from a family of notaries who has been based in the town of Cognac for several generations. The Petite Champagne is celebrated for its very fine eaux-de-vie, which is typically a result of the high chalk content, maritime climate, and sun-drenched hills.
Grosperrin never adds color, sugar nor caramel to adjust the flavoring - making their Cognacs easier to drink.
Jean Grosperrin believes that the quality of a Cognac is directly related to the quality of the individual producing and maturing it. By visiting each winegrower and vineyard, hearing the story of the distillery and maturing techniques, he understands the precious nature of a Cognac before even tasting it. Each one of the Cognacs that he selects for the Collection tells its own story - one of older Cognac making techniques, without technology or guaranteed abundant harvests.
Arriving in a slim, sleek decanter like the rest of the Cognac de Collection, this Cognac is bottled at 60.3% ABV.

Grosperrin Vintage 1973 Petite Champagne Brut de Fût Cognac
This is highest proof cognac at 60.3% ABV I have ever had but it is so wonderful. I use a tulip glass for the full nose experience of the petite champagne that I love so much. Palate was surprisingly smooth for the proof, very enjoyable and every sip had a different taste and fantastic flavors; honey, fruits, spice and nice wood also. What I appreciate in any cognac is the finish! The after taste last a long time so I could really savor the moment. From the nose to the aftertaste definitely a 5 star rating. As for the value a 5 star rating too because it is a great bottle of petite champagne.
After having such a great all around cognac education here at Cognac Expert I will be trying other high proof cognacs from small producers. Max and Sophie you do a great job in ever aspect of cognac; from the history of the producers, to the different regions, to making me realize there's more than just the big producers of cognac. I have learned so much and I have you two to thank for it!
