Description
Aged for an Entire Generation: The Hors d’Age Carafe Cognac by Guillon Painturaud
Aged for more than 30 years in traditional oak barrels before being bottled, this rich and complex Cognac has retained its vibrant and fruity notes despite its age. Named “Hors d’Age” by the blenders as it was harvested and left to mature over a generation ago, this mellow Cognac has left a significant contribution to the Angel’s share. Its intricate flavor profile and carefully crafted carafe make it a popular choice amongst Cognac connaisseurs.
The Painteraud family estate has been established in the Grande Champagne growing region since 1610, with every step of the production process being managed on site. This means that the blenders have complete creative control over the final result, ensuring only the finest Ugni Blanc grapes grown on the land are distilled into exquisite eaux-de-vie, blended, then placed to mature in traditional French oak barrels.
A true example of tradition ticking all the boxes - with premier cru eaux-de-vie, aged for a long period of time with traditional processes on a centuries-old estate in the heart of the Cognac region. Thanks to this long aging process, notes of oak are evident on both nose and palate, with candied fruit aromas dominating with hints of citrus peel. Upon sipping, one will experience the rich flavors of dried apricots and stewed figs, with a long and balanced finish.
How to Serve
A Cognac of this age should always be served neat, ideally in a classic snifter or tulip glass. The estate recommend pairing the delicate fruity flavors of this Cognac with a chocolate fondant and ginger ice cream, allowing the earthy notes of oak to cut through the sweet chocolate and the citrus aromas of lemon peel to contrast the ginger spice.
Presentation of the Decanter
An elegant hand-blown glass square decanter with that classic, timeless font highlighting the decadence of this Cognac’s premier cru provenance. The decanter comes with a protective charcoal gray box for presentation and gifting purposes.
