History of Remy Couillebaud Cognac
The vineyards of Remy Couillebaud Cognac were planted and cultivated in second half of the 1800s. In 1867, cultivation of the vines began in earnest, and it was at this time that the house purchased their first still. The traditions and knowledge of all things eaux-de-vie were closely guarded and handed down through the generations. Slowly the house began to make a name for itself in cognac production, and in 1969 the house took the step of selling their wares directly to customers, as opposed to dealers or other cognac houses.
Cognac Remy Couillebaud Today
Today, Cognac Remy Couillebaud remains traditionally run and independently owned by the sixth generation of the original founding family. Direct sales continue to make up a large proportion of revenue, and in 1995 the house took the step of producing small batches of vintage year cognacs. Most of their cognacs are presented in traditionally shaped bottles, with simple labelling denoting the quality of each different cognac. One exception to this rule is the Remy Couillebaud Extra Old Cognac, which is presented in an elegant tapered bottle. Intended for prestigious occasions, this cognac is only produced in a limited quantity.
News, Products and Prices
The range of cognacs produced by Remy Couillebaud Cognac is, for a smaller producer, diverse and varied. It also represents good value for money. The range begins with the Remy Couillebaud VS Cognac, through the VSOP, Napoleon, XO and Old Reserve. The signature bottle is the Remy Couillebaud Extra Old Cognac as mentioned above.
The house also produce Pineaux des Charentes – in both a rose and a white version. They also offer a Vieux Pineau Blanc – a product that’s so named after being declared ‘old’ from the Commission de Degustation du Syndicat d’Appellation.
