Description
Louis Bouron Heritage Cognac (Distilled 1906)
The Heritage is the first of the two collector's pieces in the Louis Bouron range. Distilled in 1906 and slowly transferred into demijohns once it reached its full maturity, this cognac carries well over a century of life.
What makes the Heritage especially rare is that it is an assemblage of all three of the family crus: Fins Bois, Borderies and Petite Champagne. At this age, most surviving cognacs are single-cru bottlings, simply because there are so few barrels left to work with. To find an old assemblage at a hundred years of age is unusual, and is one of the defining strengths of this estate.
Color: Deep mahogany with antique amber lights.
Nose: Profoundly mature. Old rancio, polished walnut, leather, dried mushrooms, candied citrus peel, beeswax, light cinnamon. A vintage perfume.
Palate: Extraordinarily round, with what one taster called magnificent roundness. The three crus woven together carry an unusual depth: the structure of Petite Champagne, the floral curvature of Borderies, the fruit of Fins Bois. Old leather, walnut, candied orange, a long sweet-savoury arc.
Finish: Very long. Tertiary notes of leather, tobacco, sweet wood and warm cocoa stay for minutes.
A reference for collectors of pre-war cognac and a once-in-a-lifetime pour for the connoisseur.
Louis Bouron is a 5-generation family estate at Chateau de la Grange, Saint-Jean d'Angely (97 hectares across Fins Bois, Borderies and Petite Champagne). Their cognacs carry age statements that far exceed the legal minimum for each category, and are bottled without added sugar or caramel.
Presentation of the bottle
Hand-bottled in limited quantities from the family demijohn reserve and presented in the elegant Louis Bouron house bottle. 70cl, 40%.
How to drink
Serve at room temperature in a tulip cognac glass, neat. Pour a small measure and let it open generously, with cognacs of this age, the aromatic evolution in the glass is itself the experience. Ideal as a contemplative pour after a quiet meal, on its own.

Woah, you can tell it is old.
Apparently distilled in 1906, when it was put in Dame Jeanne.. unclear! Apparently around beginning of the millenium. So the taste: On the nose, the Borderies speaks first I wrote down: dried violet, walnut, a touch of beeswax (?), some rancio creeps in, carefully, like slightly aged mushroom, old...
