Armagnac is a grape brandy produced in the Gascony region of south-west France, between the Adour and Garonne rivers in the foothills of the Pyrenees, as it has been since at least the 15th century. The terroir here is rugged and earthy, spread across rolling hills drenched in sunshine during the long summer - resulting in brandy that is dark, rich and rustic, with concentrated aromas.
Traditionally made using wines made from Colombard, Baco Blanc, Folle Blanche and Ugni Blanc grapes, Armagnac is distilled in column stills rather than pot stills, and distilled only once. The resulting spirit is generally of a low ABV - as low as 52% - and is then aged in oak barrels before being bottled.

This Duc Moisans Armagnac comes in a classic, curved bottle popular with many Armagnac producers. The thin neck is covered with gold foil, matching the understated label. Duc Moisans certainly let their liquid speak for itself, without frills or fanfare.
How to Enjoy Armagnac Duc Moisans
As it often expresses a fuller body than Cognac, Armagnac is particularly suited after dinner as a digestif; this is no exception. Pour into a tulip glass and let it rest for 30 seconds or so before taking a sip - this will allow the aromas to fully develop, giving the optimal drinking experience.
The cocoa and cherry flavors which emerge on the palate make this the ideal Armagnac to pair with berry desserts, tarte au chocolat or Ethiopian coffee.
