Tasting review

Tasting review:

Eye: Deep amber - hints of shimmering mahogany.

Nose: Fresh oriental notes: Bergamot, orange peel, dark berries, gingerbread, clove & cinnamon embraced by sweet vanilla.

Palate: Silky-smooth & subtle to begin, followed by richer, more substantial flavors. Harmonious notes of blackcurrant & woody notes, tones of gingerbread & orange peel

Exquisite, lingering finish

Description

L'Or de Jean Martell is a truly exceptional Cognac.  Created from eaux-de-vie from both the Grande Champagne and Borderies terroir, over 400 have gone into the blend - some of which are over 100 years old.  The resulting creation provides the taster with a vertiable effusion of sensations.  Indeed, from the moment you set eyes on the deep, shimmering hue, be prepared to fall under its spell.  If Cognac can create magic, then this must be the king of all all wizardry.

Cellar Master, Christophe Valtaud, says of L'Or de Jean Martell, "For me, this is the quintessence of Martell Cognacs.  With the body of the Borderies and the structure of Grande Champagne, L'Or offers a perfect balance between rich aromas and power.  It's blended using over 400 extremely rare eaux-de-vie, yet remains a model of harmony and the perfect expression of this Cognac house's philosophy".

Presented in a stunning crystal decanter, this is certainly a Cognac for the connoiseur.

About Martell Cognac

Martell is the oldest of the Big Four Cognac houses. Similar to Rémy Martin, but a few years older still, not long ago did Martell celebrate its 300-year anniversary. The history of Martell & Co dates back to 1715 when Jean Martell founded the company with the wish to produce only the highest quality in Cognac. With the legendary bottles Martell Cordon Bleu, the cuvée Martell Extra L’Or de Jean Martell and the recent Création Grand Extra from 2007, the company strongly implanted itself in the luxury goods market, and are famous for using large amounts of eaux-de-vie from the Borderies terroir. It belongs to Pernod Ricard and has sales of around 15 million liters every year. The most precious eaux-de-vie, some of which date back to 1830, are stored in a secret location in the cellars of Jean Martell - approximately 1.6 million 9-liter cases!

Q&A

Peter 2012-09-05

This is clearly one of the finest cognacs I've ever had. Compared to other houses, this price is even quite competitive! The taste, the colour, the nose of this cognac is absolutely incredible.. such a complex aroma palate.. worth every penny. The only other one that can compete is Hennessy Richard (an Extra cognac). Also love the bottle!
