Prunier Cognac VSOP Grande Champagne represents the tradition of one of Cognac's oldest independent producers. Established in 1701 by Jean Prunier, the house began bottling and exporting its Cognac in 1769, building a long-standing reputation over more than two centuries. The Prunier family continues to oversee the production, maintaining a focus on quality within the Cognac region.
This VSOP is sourced entirely from the Grande Champagne cru, recognized as the premier growing area for Cognac. The region's distinct chalky soils, primarily composed of soft limestone, provide excellent drainage and allow the Ugni Blanc grapevines to root deeply. This unique terroir contributes to eaux-de-vie known for their delicate character and potential for extended aging. Prunier distills its eaux-de-vie using traditional Charentais stills, often with fine lees, before aging them in Limousin oak barrels within their cellars, including those in Gimeux noted for ideal maturation conditions.
Prunier Cognac VSOP Grande Champagne is a non-vintage expression, presented in a 750ml bottle. This Cognac comprises eaux-de-vie aged for a minimum of five to six years, exceeding the standard VSOP requirements. It is bottled at 40% ABV.
This Cognac is suitable for enjoyment neat, allowing its characteristics to be fully appreciated. It can also be served on the rocks or as a distinguished base in cocktails.
