Rémy Martin V: Eau-de-vie de Vin Distilled Grape Spirit Cognac
Rémy Martin V: Entering an age of innovation with a vibrant and versatile spirit
In 2010, Rémy Martin shocked the world with the launch of Rémy Martin V, a clear spirit born from eaux-de-vie that is unapologetically NOT a Cognac. Unique in its concept, the grapes harvested from the iconic Rémy Martin vineyards are distilled twice in traditional copper pot stills just like Cognac, before passing through a phase of ice-cold filtration to produce a refined, exceptionally smooth and brilliantly transparent spirit, never before seen on the market.
Bold and sophisticated, it boasts a refreshing and round flavor profile, ranging from subtle notes of pear and melon with a hint of a mint. The intricate and vibrant character of this eau-de-vie incorporates all of the sensory savoir-faire of Rémy Martin's rich history with a daring dash of innovation.
It's important to note that this isn't a Cognac, it is a distilled product of grape wine (an eau-de-vie de vin), Remy Martin call it a "Distilled Grape Spirit", a new and exciting category in the industry that sees Remy Martin advance into a new age of contemporary Cognac products, pushing the boundaries with their distinctive and fresh vision.
Although some may compare it to eau-de-vie such as Poire Williams, the Remy Martin V stands out thanks to its grape base, as well as its distillation/filtration processes.
Rather than being aged in barrels like a traditional Cognac, the Remy V keeps its clear color thanks to the unaged filtration process, it also holds on to the wonderful aromas of fresh, crisp fruit as it is untouched by any woody, leather notes produced by the traditional maturation process in oak barrels.
The spirit's name comes from the French word, "Vie", meaning life. Clean and transparent like water, it's clear this stylish new launch by Remy Martin will breathe life into many a cocktail. It's definitely worth testing, this water-of-life distilled grape spirit will surely treat your tastebuds to a touch of innovation.
How to Enjoy:
Remy Martin's expert mixologist has produced several recipes to enjoy Remy Martin V, including the "V Cran", a blend of V with cranberry juice and a squeeze of fresh line. Or perhaps "The Verve" which sees Remy Martin V paired with pomegranate syrup, fresh lime juice and ginger ale. This clear grape spirit can be enjoyed in many ways, it's vibrant and versatile and unlike any other on the market. If you choose to try it neat, we recommend drinking it ice cold!
Presentation of the bottle:
This crisp and clean design is clearly destined to be placed as a premium product, the elegant silver detailing and frosted glass bottle are a nuanced nod to the spirit's ice-cold filtration process, as well as its serving suggestion! The bold scarlet V emblazoned on the bottle's label and neck signal this spirit as a stand out product, a contemporary and completely new competitor in the Cognac market.
I don't understand who this is marketed to
This is not to my taste. The nose is harsh and powerful, highly alcoholic like Everclear. That being said, the smell of the spirit itself is quite different than cognac. Bright and fruity, but unlike cognacs like 1738, there are little to no caramel, honey, or stone fruit notes. The main smell that...
