History of Guy Bonnaud Cognac

In the year 1910 Andre Bonnaud was running his mixed farm with just a couple of hectares given over to vines for the production of eaux-de-vie. Andre was called up to fight in the 1st World War where he was tragically killed, leaving the farm in the hands of his son, Aristide. Then, during the 2nd World War Aristide was held prisoner for 6 years, but the Bonnaud family pulled together to carry on with the running of the farm and Cognac production. After the war was over, Aristide returned to run the farm side by side with his son, Guy. Guy Bonnaud was himself then sent overseas for military service, spending time in North Africa and the Middle East. He returned in 1958 and took over the reins of the farm, extending the Cognac vineyard from its two hectares to six hectares and then up to 30 hectares. In 1975 Guy Bonnaud Cognac began to store and age some of its eaux-de-vie, rather than selling it all to the larger Cognac houses. Then, in 1997, they began to bottle and sell their cognacs under their own brand identity.

Cognac Guy Bonnaud Today

Today, the house of Cognac Guy Bonnaud farms 50 hectares of vines. The son, daughter and two grandsons of Guy Bonnaud help to run the estate. Naturally, for a family run firm, each generation has passed its Cognac production knowledge down to the next, and as has been the tradition for the house, all aspects of work and production remain in the family. They work hard to present their Cognacs in many different ways, including trade fairs, markets and via their website and other Internet outlets.
