A de Fussigny Les Crus du Cognac Gift Set: a World of Flavor
This set is an excellent way in which to own five wonderful Cognacs, making it a superb introduction to this high-quality brand. The bottles in the A de Fussigny Les Crus du Cognac Gift Set are all of an XO age, which means they have matured for at least ten years in French oak and offer a luxurious way in which to compare and contrast five growing areas of the Cognac region.
The set comprises the following:
Grande Champagne: The most prominent terroir and generally regarded the finest, this area is also known as the Premier Cru. Eaux-de-vie from this area are round, mature, and sophisticated. This XO bottling combines delicate aromas of black tea with a mature palate of almonds, leading into a complex and long finish. Sublime.
Petite Champagne: Located next to the Grande Champagne, producing eaux-de-vie that share many attributes with its larger sibling. However, Cognacs from Petite Champagne also offer a slight edginess and pronounced aromas, making them sought after in their own right. Notes of dried chamomile and wildflowers dominate this expression, developing slowly into soft fruits and incense.
Borderies: It might be the smallest of all the terroirs, but this region is known for its big flavors, often showing notes of violets and nuts on the nose and palate. Always unique and full of life, Borderies Cognac is a phenomenon that has to be tasted to be fully appreciated. This one starts out soft but slowly opens up into those classic confident florals: jasmine, angelica blossom and iris.
Fins Bois: One of the lesser-known growing regions, the Fins Bois nevertheless has a dedicated following who know how to appreciate its fresh fruit character. These eaux-de-vie are increasingly being sought out, thanks to their rounded bouquet. With distinct finesse and notes of grape, prunes, crème brûlée, vanilla and marmalade, this is a wonderful example of a Fins Bois XO.
Bons Bois: Dominated by sandy soil and interspersed with pine forest, the Bons Bois area produces eaux-de-vie as rustic as its landscape. Not refined, perhaps, but always individual. It’s quite rare to find a bottling from this cru - especially of this age - so make sure to savor every sip!
Presentation of the Set
The five 20cl bottles are beautifully presented in an oval wooden box. Overall, this is a tasting set of exceptional quality and the perfect introduction to the brand of A de Fussigny. It also makes a great a present for anyone who loves the finer things in life. Enjoy each bottling separately, or get the tulip glasses out, line them up and explore the world of Cognac in a tasting with your friends.
About A de Fussigny Cognac
Located in the historical center of Cognac, France, A de Fussigny Cognac was established in 1814 on the banks of the iconic Charente River. The brand pushes the idea of modern luxury, incorporating tradition, authenticity and craftsmanship with modernity and innovation. The estate's 200-year-old cellar has a particularly humid environment thanks to its proximity to the river, meaning the maturation process produces a high quality and unique character to Fussigny’s Cognac. The estate boasts a selection of Cognacs from all growing terroirs, but focuses primarily on distilling eaux-de-vie from the prestigious Fine Champagne region (Petite and Grande Champagne), utilising the rich soils to concentrate on high quality and a distinct flavor profile. Using ancestral expertise and savoir-faire, the estate's seasoned cellar master blends the finest selection of eaux-de-vie to produce a particular finesse to each flavor, adding a complex character to each individual Cognac.
A de Fussigny Cognac has a no-plastic policy, ensuring they do not use or create plastic waste for their packaging.
