Vincent Cognac

Vincent Cognac

Covering 60 hectares of prime Cognac vineyards, Cognac Vincent is today split into two separate properties. Both locations have far reaching histories, with family traditions and secrets being handed down through three generations to today’s owners – Virginia and Christopher Vincent. The house now produces a range of cognac, Pineau des Charentes, liqueurs and wine, all lovingly created from the vines that grow in the area known as Ile d’Oleron.

History of Cognac Vincent

The story of Cognac Vincent began in the 1930s. It was then that Victorien Videau began to farm the vines and distil the fruits into eau-de-vie. The operation was taken over in the following decade by Yvan Videau, and then in 1974 by Guy Videau.

When Guy took the reins, the property consisted of 12 hectares of vines, and it was his ambition to expand this and therefore increase the level of production. By 1989 he was tending 18 hectares of vineyards, and the following year he began to branch into some additional varieties of grapes to allow the cognac house to also begin to produce bottled wine.

Vincent Cognac Today

2007 saw Guy Videau take a well earned retirement, passing the cognac house into the capable hands of Virginia and Christopher Vincent. Christopher had also taken over the running of the property of his father, Matha Jacques Vincent, in 1996. This separate property had been created in the 1960s, with 8.5 hectares of vines, but by 2006 had been expanded to 30 hectares.

That same year saw a large proportion of this separate property sold off, in order to fund what they refer to as ‘Project Oleron.’ Christopher still owns and tends 13 hectares of these vineyards, meaning the family traditions that have been handed down over three generations still continue to thrive through Vincent Cognac’s products.
