History of Cognac Raymond Ragnaud

In 1860, the family Ragnaud owned a modest vineyard in the heart of Grande Champagne.  Paul Ragnaud purchased what is now the family chateau in Ambleville, and when he died a year later, his son Raymond took over, who gave his name to the brand. Not only did he inherit the chateau and surrounding vineyards, but also many barrels of old and extremely rare cognacs. It was at this point that he decided to set up Cognac Raymond Ragnaud and market and sell the cognac the family business produced.

The company gradually grew, and on Raymond’s death in 1963, his wife took over with the help of Francoise Bricq and Jean-Marie Ragnaud. They purchased two other vineyards in the villages of Criteuil and Lignieres-Sonneville, expanding their property to the size it is today. The grapes grown are Ugni Blanc and the rare Folle Blanche.

Together, they worked diligently to further their business, consulting with the chateau’s cellar master over every aspect of the distillation process, whilst still remaining faithful to the traditional ways instilled from the family who preceded them.

Raymond Ragnaud Cognac Today

Today, Raymond Ragnaud Cognac is headed by Francoise Ragnaud-Bricq and her daughter, Stephanie Bricq. The family skills and distillation secrets have been handed down through four generations, and today’s cognacs are produced faithful to the manner in which they were created in the mid-1800s.

The family Ragnaud-Bricq ensures that only fruits grown on the estate are used in their cognacs, and everything right down to the bottling process is carried out on site. Stephanie Briq is responsible for international sales, and Cognac Raymond Ragnaud now boasts and impressive 75 per cent export rate. Their cognacs can be found in many countries around the world, including Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, the Netherlands, Germany and Japan.
