Products

Grönstedts Cognac came to existence in the year 1846, when Johan Daniel Grönstedts, a Swede from Stockholm, began producing and blending cognac and selling it under his own name. He imported eaux-de-vie from the Cognac region to sell in his home country. After his death in 1876, the company was passed on to Georg August Wilhelm Schuldies. However, in the year 1917, the company was taken over by the Swedish alcohol industry as part of their nationalization and run as a subsidiary. It wasn’t until the year 1931 that Grönstedts once again became an independent brand in its own right.

Since then the production of the cognac itself has moved around from area to area, and country to country. For a long time production was at Reimersholme in Sweden before it moved to Sodertalje, then Arsta and then to Sundsvall. In 2008 the blending and bottling process was moved back to France.

Cognac Grönstedts Today

In 2008, Cognac Grönstedts was sold to Pernod Ricard, and all production then took place in France. A year later the brand was sold on to the Altia Corporation who owns it today. Their presence in Scandinavia is extremely strong, being the market leader in Sweden and holding over 57 per cent of the cognac market.

The Swedish market is looked after by the company Philipson Soderberg, and in Finland by Wennerco. Sales in Germany are managed by the branch of Altia in Denmark. The creation and blending of Grönstedts cognacs is in the capable hands of cellar master Folke Andersson.
