Geffard Henri Cognac
The Geffard family occupies an enviable position in the heart of the Premier Cru - the Grande Champagne - known for producing exceptional eaux-de-vie. Their history in Cognac dates back to 1840 extending back five generations from father to son. They continue their craft today with their two children, Karine and Stéphane. The soil is chalky and the microclimate optimal for producing fantastic Cognac. They harvest, distill and ripen everything as a family and on the estate, and their selection includes the Henri Giffard VSOP, Vieille Réserve, Très Vieux Cognac.
The Geffard Henri estate
Located in the heart of the Grande Champagne Premier Cru, the Geffard family has been making Cognac since 1840. Already five generations of winegrowers, from father to son and today, with their 2 children Karine and Stéphane, they continue the tradition.
The family owns 30 hectares of vineyards of which 15 hectares in the village of Verrières and 15 hectares in the village of Juillac le Coq. The vines are 40 years old on average, with 90% Ugni Blanc grapes and the rest Colombard. The soil is very calcareous, together with the microclimate ensures that they can harvest until October.
Harvesting, distilling, and ripening are all done by the family themselves and on their domain. The distillation is done with charentais alembic stills from November to February twenty-four hours a day. Then the barrels go into their cellars for further maturation, where the eau de vie matures in barrels to absorb the tannin from the wood giving the cognac a nice color of gold and amber.
