Domaine Landreau (Summary)
At Domaine Landreau, family and time shape every drop of Cognac. Based in Criteuil-la-Magdeleine, deep within the premier cru of Grande Champagne, this estate has remained independent and hands-on since the 19th century. Today, under the leadership of Thomas Landreau, the 6th generation, the domaine marries digital precision with century-old techniques. Their 27-hectare property—mostly Ugni Blanc—thrives on clay-limestone soil and is farmed under HVE Level 3 environmental standards.
The team’s approach is rooted in thoughtful evolution: mechanical harvests and computerized distilling coexist with traditional methods and limited intervention. The result? Cognacs that are expressive, terroir-driven, and unmistakably Landreau.
History of Domaine Landreau
Founded in 1859 by Pierre Landreau, a miller turned vigneron, the domaine has weathered war, vine disease, and market upheaval while steadily expanding and innovating. The phylloxera crisis saw Pierre's son preserve two hectares and invest in distillation, while his grandson Emile brought modern tools—tractors and stills—to the operation during World War II. In the 1980s, Daniel Landreau pioneered direct bottle sales to survive a regional downturn, laying the foundation for the brand’s current identity.
Thomas took the reins in 2012, bringing a fresh perspective while keeping continuity with past generations. His initiatives include automation, a digital distillation system, and a gradual shift toward estate bottling. Today, only 10% of production is bottled under their label, but that figure is growing—with a target of 30% in the years ahead.
Signature Cognacs
Domaine Landreau’s range is proudly rooted in Grande Champagne. From vibrant, fruit-led VSOPs to deeply mature XO, XXO, and the 50-year-aged “Âge d’Or,” each Cognac tells a chapter of the family's story. The century-aged “Réserve d’Émile,” crafted with Folle Blanche and Ugni Blanc and bottled cask-strength, stands as a singular treasure from the early 20th century—undisturbed and vibrant.
In 2025, the estate celebrates its 175th anniversary, marked by a limited-edition anniversary blend that reflects generations of experience and quiet excellence.
